For the next coach, I will extend him a 8 year grace period and be positive and supportive (Mooney was more like 10-11 years +, not as forgiving in my old age I guess). I realize that we have a large contingent of posters and moderators on here that don't like the negative tenor of myself and certain posters. I do say that I think I have been overly positive and supportive on this board for 3,650 days or more, even thinking that the coaching was not getting the most out of players and not getting it done on the recruiting trail. I promise to do that again for the next coach.

Since I have been validated (per Mooney's comments about "noise") and other statements of "staff" reading the board - I do think us Negative Nancie's are having an affect. And don't say we are hurting the program - they did this too themselve's, we have been supporting for a long long time. Validation for the FMM and the posters and social media that the announcer despises.

validation? delusional more like it.

I have posted that I’m ready to move away from CM, but the constant posts about dumping him and our 7-8 year drought etc are mind-numbingly tiresome. We get it guys. If there’s any actual movement by our AD from the repetition, I have yet to see it. At this point it only seems to be agitating loyal fans.

What is the goal?

So what we as fans on here are supposed to do is stop complaining about our mediocrity and, worse yet, the acceptance of it by fans and admin alike because we have complained and nothing has changed ( the mediocrity or acceptance of) so now there is no point to complaining anymore? This is the mindset that has me (and others) frustrated to start with.

I only speak for myself, but I’m not saying don’t complain. I don’t even see people telling folks not to complain. I’m just trying to understand what the objective is at this point.

If it’s to annoy the f out of a broad cut of fans, then mission accomplished. If it’s to simply vent, mission accomplished, although that can be done in one’s diary or at a bar over drinks and need not be done here repeatedly. If it’s to move the needle with someone in power to change things, then mission failed.

I’m seriously trying to understand what you guys are hoping for, because for the life of me I can’t figure out what it is.

We should hope for a coach who points to the NIT banners hanging from the rafters and declare that they are motivational reminders of disappointment and unfulfilled potential.

Football season?

It is interesting that alums support the football team more than students. Unfortunate it isn't a bigger draw but I didn't know anybody who went to more than 3 games during their four years there and those same people went to almost every home basketball game.

The students don't attend anything other than the first football game of the fall, the family weekend football game until their parents get hungry for dinner, and the VCU basketball game. Don't waste your time trying to convince us otherwise.

I think most students only go to the first football game their freshman year and then never step foot in the football stadium again. And I just meant of the people I knew and was friends with, which was a very sports heavy crowd who attended a majority of the basketball games. But the student population at basketball games is much heavier during the weekend which isn't surprising. Obviously VCU is the most attended as you said.

I just meant that most students on campus wouldn't be able to name a single football player unless they were in a class with them. Most can name a basketball player or two.

I am hoping people wake up and demand better! For the life of me I can’t figure out why what we have done for the last bunch of years is ok and continues to be ok (as it gets worse) . That is what I am trying to accomplish.

I agree with you. Current students don’t attend football games. Lots of nerds.
I’m a nerd and I love football. I also went to one game my entire time at UR.

I think there are a lot of things that compete for student time, particularly during weekday b-ball games. Doesn’t address football of course.

And it's a damn shame. How times and student interest have changed.

Ok, well if the objective is to get people to wake up, I don’t think it’s working. I think the tone is putting people off. But I’m just a simple caveman lawyer.

Tailgating is becoming more of a thing among fraternities which is good to see. It’s a good start but attendance isn’t all that great for football. Basketball has a pretty solid attendance from students in my opinion given our school size, our record these pst few years, and the fact we play teams like Fordham on a wednesday night

Not that interesting.

Not every one-liner requires an immediate memesplain. It's OK to leave the mic on the floor.

This is a groundswell that is moving da chains. Call it delusional, but it is working, it is working. Philly, honestly the fact that so many are embracing the mediocrity is driving this smaller faction. I remember anger, disbelief and sadness when K0 did not make the NCAA, now it is just accepted. Who is next, Grant all time scorer and no NCAA, please no.

The point is, does EVERY thread, EVERY discussion, have to gravitate to your theme. If it does then you WILL and HAVE lost your audience.

I see you're a remedial learner as well.

He is delusional if he thinks his repetitive social media is being validated by anyone except the people that like his tweets, posts, etc.

How dare you insult my UR education sir! If we were having this conversation in person I would buy you a beer btw. No big deal. I know the "positive posse" get tired of hearing about our crappy record last year but the next step after being upset is apathy. I'm there and I feel like a lot of folks are starting to join me. Doesn't mean I don't love my alma mater and support the players but I'm tired of the same old crap.

It's the offseason, so we really only have a few possible topics to talk about at all. We're either happy with the program, not happy with the program, or mostly interested in talking about strategy and players.

I understand your frustration. but if you want to be heard, be heard. flood the email and snail mail boxes of Mooney and Hardt and whoever else you think needs to hear your frustration. freaking march circles around the RC. stage a sit in. go all Ghandi on them if you want.

but you're driving away fans from this board. yes, the only ones leaving are the truthers and positive posse members who must be somehow distantly related to Mooney to still believe and hope. so I know it's no big loss to you. but still. It's fewer and fewer of us holding out. I've loved being part of this board. it's my connection. but it's become a drag.

I will tell you the number 1 and 2 things that will light this board up with numbers we have not see in quite some time:
1- Coaching Change
2- Winning
That's it. I do feel my voice is being heard.
Thanks,

My view is: State your complaints/compliments once or twice, then move on. We don't need to rehash the same stuff in every thread ad nauseum. I don't read the board as often as I used to because it takes so long to wade through the repetition that it is hard to get to the substance.

Thank you, Philly, 23, Mo, 32, Eight, Captain and many others. Honestly, if it wasn't for some of your continued posts, I'm not sure I could even root for my this program anymore. I am just baffled over the acceptance of what has occurred over the past 7 years. And not just the acceptance of these facts, but that no one within our administration is even open to self-critique, not less make a meaningful correction, of what the program is doing. We just keep doing the same damn thing with the same damn people, and predictably we get the same damn results.

The groundswell is real though, if people think the dissatisfaction is just isolated to a few ardent fans of this board, you are sorely mistaken. It may have started on this board, but it is growing, deepening, and hardening.

The thing that puzzles me about this thinking, is what makes people believe others are "happy/content/satisfied/accepting" just because every post is not negative?

That is not true. Posters from both sides are being snuffed out. I was a negative poster that left back in the day. In fact, some of the Negative Nancys/Fire Mooney Brigade were harcore Mooney for Lifers back in the day. Some of those very people drove me away. After the S16 run, you didn't question anything Mooney did. No Sir! Now the factions have splintered. You still have a few straddling the fence. There is a concentrated effort daily by both sides to snuff out the other's cause. Constant trolling on both sides. They do the trick, because the other side responds quickly. Then the battle is on. The negative side responds back. It goes on, and on, and on. Team wins 90-50 someone complains about how the team played. Team loses 90-50 and someone comes on to talk about how good they played and how they should have won the game. All of that is good for the team because when apathy sets in, you are in real trouble.
