Borg reference there for you Star Trek fans but reading over his statement to JOC, you can only look at his words and realize that he has not changed anything in our dysfunctional athletic department, they have changed him or maybe they made this hire because he was like this already. .
1. As I read it, I was like hmmm, I've heard this before.... This is Chris Mooney, Keith Gill speak. Our goal is to compete for A-10 championships and NCAA bids, how many times have we heard that completely immeasurable statement about our basketball program. What does it mean to compete for A-10 championships???? This was pretty much the exact same statement Hardt made at the end of last year. Him and Chris are on the same page.... They couldn't even come up with some new verbiage to sell us, they just recycled the same exact junk they've been selling us for the past few years.
2. Misspelling, proofreading errors, wrong dates etc.... How many times have we seen promotional stuff come out from our marketing folks with wrong dates, misspellings or proofreading oversights on it. They have been at least a half dozen just this season. In a place with good internal controls, this happens at most once and then someone gets a stern talking and it doesn't happen again. Here though it happens again and again. To me, it is an outward symptom of a lack of accountability and lack of a drive for excellence. And to put a cherry on the sundae, they misspelling University of the damn press release explaining Hardt's decision to keep Mooney. They literally can't spell the name of their company correct. Sending out communications with no misspellings or incorrect information is literally probably the easiest thing in the world to do, but yet we don't, can't or don't care enough to fix it.
3. Matt Smith and Bob Black. I said this before but you have University employees actively denigrating their customer base. Matt Smith has done this a number of times and the fact that he continues to do it, means his bosses obviously don't see a problem with it. Now, Bob has done it as well.
What this all means to me. UR athletics could give a rats ass about what their customers about their product. Hardt had this decision made a long time ago, he is merely a cog in the machine over there and obviously the dsyfunction that exists runs really deep and is too deep for one person to solve.
THEY DON'T CARE.
