Great photo. Looks like the guys have been working on getting in really good shape and putting on some added muscle. That will come in very handy this coming fall.

All three of our key returning players should have the potential to be on the all-A-10 team, and I am confident all three will be working hard towards maximizing their potential and helping the team to move up in the standings....

if Grant likes them and plays like he looks here, i am in with red.

Good Lord. I hope not. Geriot is/was a winner first and foremost. Smart player, winning player. I hope GG tries to emulate him.
23, you comment without ever watching practices or talking with our staff. Grant's potential as a player is way greater than Dan's ever was. Love Dan and proud that he is a Spider; he is a very successful coach. But, yes, Grant is "far, far, different" from Dan.

Dan was a really good Spider and the ACL injury unfortunately limited his game, but even before that Grant is at a different level athletically. he'll be remembered as the best UR big man ... by far.

Grant ranked no. 9 on this list

https://cbbcentral.com/2018/07/27/top-ten-mid-major-players-by-position-center/

9. Grant Golden (Richmond)

  • Vitals: 6-9, 240 pounds, Redshirt Sophomore
  • Stats: 15.6 ppg, 6.7 rpg, 2.2 apg, .498/.275/.625
Chris Mooney’s offensive system plays through versatile bigs with high-level passing ability. Golden may not have the same floor vision that his predecessor TJ Cline, but his offensive talents will have to carry this Richmond team in a critical year for Mooney’s job security. The next step for the Virginia native is developing a consistent 3-point jumper.

Lets be a little cautious on annointing Grant the next great or greatest Spider Big Man.
Yes - last season he put some good numbers and had a good year, but it was arguably on one of the worse Spider Teams in the last 20 years. Don't forget - we finished the season 12-20, and Grant had no one behind him to worry about taking him out if he was having a bad game or the team was struggling. He was going to play 30 minutes a night no matter what. And I firmly believe it is easier to put up good numbers on a bad team as their is less pressure and when your losing by double digits (7 of our 20 losses were by 12 or more points) - I think the other team tends to let up a bit making things a little bit easier

I think Grant is a good player and hope he continues to progress and hopefully he gets some help around him, but right now he is a good player on a bad team. Lets hope that changes to a good player on an NCAA team in the next year or two then we can call him a UR great.

I think you meant a monster by his size. I expect teams to double team GG next year. I wonder if his production continues next year. Sometimes we see a drop in production since Mooney puts players to sleep. Finding a player that's unafraid to score. In the Princeton offense, we tend to pass the ball around and no one is willing to take a shot. It does lead to the shot clock going down and forcing a bad shot. Buckingham and Fore were both aggressive scorers and could create shots on their own. Sherod seemed a bit too passive last year. Buckingham was a defensive leader last year. GG needs to be very mobile next year. The lack of depth might be the downfall again.

No... I meant a monster IQ, a monster will to win a monstet at clutch time... Lol
Dude, i think we were diacussing size.

of course I was talking size ... hence the picture.

Trap, I'm not just taking stats. if his stats come down because Sherod and Gilyard are scoring 20 points each ... great. but he's still the most skilled, athletic, and physically impressive big men I've seen at UR, plus a great motor, and I've been watching a pretty long time.

My comment about Geriot was not meant as criticism, I loved the guy. I was merely pointing out that the year he missed with the ACL injury, Dan obviously spent a lot of time in the weight room, and it was pretty obvious that the extra bulk slowed him down. He must have thought so too, when he came back the following year he had dropped 20-25 lbs, and his quickness returned.

I think Coachfezz can explain the whole muscle mass vs agility question better than I.

The theory doesn't make much sense since the vast majority of people who put on muscle in college and the NBA don't slow down. If Grant was putting on non-muscle weight it would be a problem, but I don't think that is the case.

My wife works on campus and she told me she saw him this week...said that she felt a little intimidated by his size now. She's used to the 6'4" to 6'7" guys she sees, but Grant is something else. Makes TJ look like a string bean.

Yes, an accurate assessment.

I think I like t see if Sherod has more lateral defense quickness to see if I believe strength coach is not just bench press ideas . These muscle groups for this are specific .

Grant is best when he's playing loose and free on offense and gritty on D. You really only need one big man on the floor at any given time these days. He needs to get that FT% close to 80, but he's on his way to being very special.

I remember a roommate that washed everything together and was forever after known as Lavenderman...

To keep wandering off the subject of Grant being a force .....college was also when I learned the lesson of which clothes to wash together. Probably the first time for many of us having to do our own laundry... and mite that post is great! Has "Lavenderman" outlived that moniker or is it still following him...............

Grant looks like hes about to dish some pain after being released from an eastern european prison. His bicep is almost as big as Gilyards head.

It doesn't get brought up often anymore after the 20 year Statute of Limitations. He grabbed all his whites and 1 very cheap deep purple tee shirt by mistake, dumped it all in the washer with a lot of bleach...It took months for him to replace all the under garments.
