Thought maybe we should start a thread on Grant Williams as the Spiders made his top ten list just tweeted. Hope he becomes a Spider!

Bad list of schools for us. Hard to say academics reign supreme at UR when Harvard, Princeton and Yale are on the list. The most recent NCAA success of schools on the list may also be Harvard.

Maybe we land in that sweet spot between great academics and great basketball, but if I had a fill boat from Harvard it would be hard to turn down.

But then again Harvard is a lot farther way from his family....

obviously some of the "best" schools in the country on that list. tough for anyone to turn them down, but they're not the right fit for everybody. just like how some people don't fit and would be unhappy at Richmond, there are others that would be unhappy at Harvard. no idea what's best for Williams. that's up to him to figure out. but if it was a slam dunk he wouldn't have a list of 10 at this point and open to more.

There are other academically rigorous schools on that list other than UR and the Ivies (BC and Rice). BC is an interesting option, great academics and an ACC school (not to mention hands-down the hottest coeds in the US). Bad thing about BC is that Hockey is the top winter sport, not hoops. Technically speaking, the Ivies don't offer academic scholarships, but there are a number of grants available under the guise of academic or other financial aid. The Ivies do report the academic credentials and financial aid offers of their incoming recruits to each other, however, so no one can admit too many "ringers" that don't meet the normal academic standards.

I think our combination of basketball and academics, and small size compares favorably to the schools on his list.

well then I'd bet you think we compare favorably to the schools on any list!
(nothing wrong with that ... I like us too!)

Harvard already has 2016 commitments from a pair of highly regarded forwards. Doesn't close the door on him, but their roster is getting crowded.

Very diplomatic of young Mr Williams to put his list together alphabetically.
lol. I always find it funny when a guy says "in no particular order" and then it isn't alphabetical. even though that's a particular order, that's how I'd do it if there was no particular order. otherwise people think there's an order.

I'm going to have to say false, even though I have never been on BC's campus. When you throw out a statement like that, you are going to need a LOT of evidence to support your claim. I would like to inform you of the existence of Arizona State and every SEC school first.;)

For example, this video is for those who would rush Alpha Phi sorority at Alabama:

Pic doesn't do it justice, but I was there in the Spring of 2014, and got slapped by the wife for staring more times than could count.

I would say that BC is loaded with the likes of Molly, based purely on eyewitness accounts.

When I saw that Tenn made his list I checked out their premium board. I saw this from there Basketball Recruiting Moderator:

2) Williams is an SEC athlete, I don't have any doubt about that. I just don't know where he ends up playing on the court. I have to think he's best suited to be an undersized 4 like Armani, but some think he can play the three if he loses weight. I think he might be best suited to be a strongside DE in a 3-4.

In general, it sounds like he is a heck of a player but some HM schools think he is a bit undersized for their liking. He seems like he would be a great pick up.

Without having seem Grant play in person from his stats and the sound of his game he kind of reminds me of a slightly taller version of PJ Tucker. I think I remember UR recruited PJ coming out of HS in NC. He blew up in the summer before his Sr year and ended up at TX.

But he was an undersized SF at 6-5 and really would have been a great PF if he has been a few inches taller. Ended up avg almost 10 rebs his Jr year despite his lack of height.

So Grant has scheduled two visits and UR is not one of them.
"Williams told HoopSeen.com he has a pair of visits planned. He will see Yale on September 4th and Tennessee September 12th."

Vols football hosting the Sooners on 9/12. Tough.

Apparently the number of views produced by the link on this thread sent up some red flags to the folks at Alabama...

Ok, keef, I am moderately impressed. Though not really feeling Molly McGrath. However, I am willing to continue to consider the validity of your earlier claim throughout the duration of this season and others, should further evidence be presented to me.

They said they had 500k views in a couple of days. That means at least one person other than me was on there...

Honestly, seems like UR would be a perfect fit with both good basketball and outstanding academics. But you never know.

Who pays for these visits?

Official visits are payed for by the University, and I believe each school has a limited number they can offer. Unofficial visits are payed for by the recruit themselves and I think you can have an unlimited number of unofficial visits.

If Rutgers gets a visit over the Spiders, that will be real kick in the you know what.

Grant would seemingly be the perfect fit to top off this class.

Did Rutgers offer after the Tennessee visit? The other five seem to be from his original top ten. Certainly hope that hurts them and the others are his five visits. So that Rice and Richmond are still to come.

Given the mess that Rutgers is in,why would a kid of Grant's caliber even remotely consider The State College of New Jersey. Not sure that Eddie Jordan is going to make the short term cut.Their football coach is gone in the short run.Their new AD is extremely under qualified.Rutgers listed has to be considered a red herring.Academically,it has to be an obvious low school on the totem pole of all available options by orders of magnitude.
