Gilyard had a very good chance of breaking the NCAA steals record if it wasn’t for Covid-19. He currently has 276 steals and is 110 away from the record, which is going to be very difficult to achieve in a shortened season. However, if he decides to come back next year he should be able to absolutely destroy the all-time record by a wide margin that will be very difficult to ever beat. The additional year of eligibility for winter sports will have a lot of implications on our program. If you are Gilyard do you go pro at the end of the season or return to finish as the NCAA all-time steals leader? If I were him, I would come back for the additional year.

I don’t expect any of our guys to come back for a fifth/sixth year, but it is interesting that it’s an option. I haven’t read enough to know if it’s a done deal for everyone or only an option if they don’t get to play full seasons? I’m sure if Gilyard does happen to come back, it won’t be to break the steals record.

I can’t imagine that any of our starting 5 would come back, unless they are doing for a further degree.
Even if the NBA doesn’t take them, I can see a lot Internaitonal teams that would snatch up a few of them.

Too early to tell. This off season is going to be a free for all, especially if they pass the one time transfer rule. I could see a few of them coming back, at least that’s my guess as to why we have tailed off the recruiting trail.

They'd all be 23, and knowing that they can get paid and have their degrees (a couple already do, right?), it just seems like there'd be no reason to come back. I mean it would be incredible from a fan's standpoint to have even a couple of them stay one more year and pair up with our younger and incoming guys. I just don't think it's realistic UNLESS maybe we really underachieve this year, or they want to come back for a full season in front of fans.

I don't believe any of our starting 5 will want to come back, but what these kids have been through and in this environment I don't count out anything. An injury, bad job market, one year to a master's, finally playing to potential, etc could impact their decision.

I’m confused as usual. Is everyone saying that if Nick, Grant, and Blake received their bachelors in June of 2020, and complete over half the work needed for their masters by June 2021, it is inconceivable that they would play the 2021-2022 season to get their masters in June 2022?

I‘m not saying I know their situation or that it is likely, but I just don’t see it as unimaginable.

I mean personally, I would go back just for another year of Jersey Dirt, but that's just me.

FYI, I believe the extra eligibility applies to everyone on the team.

Not sure why many of you are so negative on the possibility of any of our 5 starters returning. We just had all 3 starters eligible for a 5th year return.

Also, Gilyard being the all time NCAA steals leader has to be worth better negotiating power on pro contract. It is a very, very impressive accomplishment if he gets it.

I'm definitely not "negative" about it, I just don't see it as a super realistic option for most of them, but I 100% hope they all stay one more year to win a national championship.
