Gilyard Nominated for McDonald's All-America Game

Nice! We will need contributions from at least a couple of our freshmen next season, and our PG looks like he will be one who can contribute early. Who is the best candidate for being the second guy from this class to contribute right away? So far I am thinking that it could be Bryce or it could be Cayo, if one or both can do some work in the weight room and put on a few pounds of muscle. Am not seeing as much from the other signees so far, but it is early...

Not Bryce. Cayo would be my pick.

Josh Jones, ha. I mean I know he had the one game in high school where he scored 50 but he was no where close McDonalds All-American material.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think all it takes to be nominated is your coach/prinicpal/AD sends in a form.

"PREP: Played for Memphis Central High School . . . Averaged 22 points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals per game as a senior and was a McDonald’s All-American nominee . . . Scored a school record 52 points in a game . . . Was Tennessee All-Tournament, All-City, All-Region and All-District both junior and senior year." OSC

He isn't even playing a Henderson State.....

Gilyard is a stud, and we are lucky to get him. If he turns out the way I think he will, it may not matter what the rest of that class does – it will still end up as a solid class.

The above figures for Bryce (see above 11-game update from urmite) suggest that he is not yet an outstanding shooter, like his dad and brother may have been. Could still come around, but that 3-point % could be improved. We will likely need to find our "2nd and third contributors" in this class from among Cayo or AJ Ford.

I would love to see one of these two have a great senior year, and AJ would be my preference, since he seems to have some outstanding other skills for a guy 6-8, if he can just put it together in his senior year, and kick the injury bug too. If anyone can post real senior year video links for either of these guys, there are many on this board who would love to see it. Ulla?

Gillard did not make the West squad (no real surprise). The coach of the West, however? Gary DeCesare.

Bryce per Max Prep - 11 games - 11.7 points, 7.5 Rebounds, 3.6 Assists. 52% from 2, 23% from 3, 54% from the line.
Yikes, thought this guy was a good shooter. People got all excited because he signed so early along with Quis. I think many failed to realize the talent differential that existed between those 2 recruits.

54% from FT line? Geez we have enough of those. Practice kid!!!!

I am no expert on non NCAA stats (and according to yesterday not great at copying those either), but here is what I found
http://www.maxpreps.com/athlete/bry...A/gendersport/basketball-stats.htm#year=16-17
on the other hand Hampton must be a great team, they are 12-2 with no players scoring a point per max preps.

I thought Schneider had gone back to play at Jordan's HS this year in Wilmington, Laney? Am I thinking of someone else or did he transfer again?

Max preps is not very reliable, I believe anyone can log in and enter stats, and probably is very hit or miss. Quite excited about Gilyard, but this class does take a hit with losing Godwin. I was looking forward to him and Sherod bombing teams into oblivion for a few years. Should be quite good at the wing with Nick and if Cayo develops there too.
