Gilly, Grant, and Blake testing NBA waters...

i would be generically concerned but just because you never know. If anything, i think all of this makes them more likely to return because overseas opportunities will surely look a lot less attractive even if available. the fear for me ends up being that the more it ends up looking like the college season will be in jeopardy, the more it makes sense for them to think about just opting to leave now since their isn't any college basketball to play etc.

But I'd still be putting the likelihood of return at 98%

Of all the things I am worried about at the moment, many of which are admittedly trivial and not important in the grand scheme of things, this is not high on the list.

That said, I hope I haven't just jinxed us so they all get the offer of a lifetime.

NBA has delayed the combine and draft. No details on when they will take place yet, but it means the deadline for when these guys will have to withdraw is also in flux.

This won't be a surprise to anyone but per Winchester Star article posted by JOC Golden said he doesn't plan on actually leaving Richmond and going pro, but he wanted to go through the process of being drafted.

Someone talk to Grant, please. Seriously, breaking news to Rothstein. I had to agree with him in another thread and now one of our star players is breaking news to him. Grant, your big enough now that probably most major CBB journalists would take your call or text. Call one of them, any one of them will do. Or give it to your bud, Noah. Come on, Grant, you can do better. ;)

He broke it to the Winchester Star over a month ago...

What’s the beef with Rothstein?
Secret fan of VCU. On a side note how wonderful is it to not hear a peep from the vcu trolls this offseason? We’re talking about how all of these incoming players will contribute while they’re getting excited about a pine rider at K-State and a big man who was ok at Maryland-Eastern shore. Nice to have an off-season here talking about recruit instead of spidernation infighting. Amazing how quick those bangwagon fans disappeared.

Is it because of his “More life altering than a 10 day trip to Europe” or whatever it is? I like Rothstein a lot and think his knowledge of college basketball is incredible.

On the trolls...it definitely is nice

Rothstein is annoying as f*ck. He is kind of like a Skip Bayless persona on Twitter. It's a schtick. I just like my sports journalists who have a more professional approach to their job vs an entertainment approach. Plus, as others have said, he is an out and out VCU apologist.

He does provide some really good coverage of the A-10 though.

I think its Coppin State, but yes point taken. The K-State dude is their version of Kweisi. Oh lord, be still my heart. I was commenting that Rhoades and Mooney seemed to have switched roles since the turn of the calendar this year. It is absolutely delightful to see.

I certainly hope so and it looks like it. But his one double digit scoring game in 3 seasons was last year 28 minutes vs SLU - 5 for 5 from 2, 7 for 9 from FT...

The problem with JR is he doesn't give a S where his info comes from. He just needs to be out there.

For example...Grant coming back is a non-story. In fact Grant's local paper ran it a month ago. Him coming back is a non-story. I tweeted as much, calling JR out & Grant "liked" it, for what's it's worth.

JR did the same with Gilly. Well, no S. Anyone that knows anything about UR hoops knows Gilly is back. Spoiler alert...Blake is back too...

JR has some good sources but gives no credit to truly local guys when appropriate (they become, "sources") and stays front and center with non-news news.

Just my $0.02.

I think we all "knew" the guys were coming back, but it's still nice to get public confirmation. I didn't see the Winchester article posted on here last month...maybe I just missed it, but it's a great read. Regardless, Rothstein's tweet yesterday was the first public confirmation I'd seen about any of the guys.

Completely agree about Rothstein's need to be in the news, and his lifting of info from other folks without giving credit. And his morning "inspirational" auto tweets are almost enough to make me unfollow him.

I just picture the guy scheduling all those tweets in his Hootsuite 10 years ago for the next 5,000 straight days and probably thinking he was the smartest guy in the world. Is there anyone who wants to hear the same exact thing every day at the same exact time? At least Jay Bilas mixes his up a little bit.

I’ll stand up and say I do. I’ve had notifications on for Rothstein for at least a year. I like them a lot. Waking up and seeing that on my phone every day helps in a small way with mental health and a reminder that when things are bad that you can take a step back and see things differently. I won’t try to change the view others have but just wanted to offer my two cents as well.

also I believe where Rothstein shines is in interviews. His knowledge is incredible. Last year he was asked incredibly random teams and could name off multiple players, coaches, and expectations for them. Totally understand disliking his approach but the man *truly* lives for college hoops and that I admire.

See post #44 on this thread re: Winchester article. I brought up then but neglected to post until recently.

Rothstein and Goodman we need those national guys, they seem to work hard and know hoops, obv we know our Spiders but allows us to keep up on all the other teams. They've both covered us to varying degrees. Heck after Goodman called out the Fire Mooney Mafia twitter (granted his take really didn't make any sense imo) but soon after I noticed they were gone, seemingly banned from Twitter.

Rothstein definitely has his schtick kinda like Ole Jer. But I'd agree w others the biggest thing is they could both give more credit to the local beat guys or maybe someone like D1Docket. One thing Rothstein has is TV appeal, he's much smoother than Goodman who looks and sounds like he has a rock in his mouth. Honestly I think he must have some type of speech impediment. Knew he wouldn't last on ESPN. But he's got the reporting part down for sure.

Grant and Vida chat...some discussion of the draft feedback he got from scouts. Unsurprising, but I'm not super thrilled that it seems they really want him to stretch the floor and work on his three ball.

I did point out that this type of feedback could have some negative impact. Likely told Gilyard he needs to look to score more.

If it means that Grant develops a more consistent outside this off season, then I think it’s great. Cline was such a weapon partially because he was a legitimate threat from deep.
