Front Court

Outstanding article! Pretty much puts into print things I already had heard from the coaches. Think our bigs will do just fine this season and their collective skills portend a bright future. OSC

Interestingly, PF is complemented mostly on his defensive ability. It will be interesting to see what kind of playing time he gets. If PF/Kwesi/GG or someone can be an interior defensive presence like ANO/Garret our defense might be a whole lot better. If Wood has improved as much as the article suggests we could be a pretty good team. Lots of ifs, can't wait for the games to start!

great article. can't all play, though. with high praise for the other 4, have to think Paul waits one more (healthy) year before taking on a larger role. he'll be vital in 2017/18 when TJ, Kwesi and Marshall graduate.

I suppose this goes here rather than its own thread - was expecting/hoping to see TJ on Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award watch list, no dice, instead Cox from VCU...

TJ is a forward, not a center. OSC

Interesting piece. I am cautiously optimistic for the front court. If everyone stays healthy we could be very solid around TJ. Especially need TJ to stay healthy. That would be great if Marshall takes the big jump talked about. Count me a little skeptical as I don't think he showed this on the Europe trip? I do think he can be a good contributor, and have some big games from the 3 point line and provide some rebounding and athleticism. Harp took a big jump from JR to SR year, we don't need that kind of leap, but 1/2 that would be tremendous. Grant does have the look of a freshman that can play like a junior, not to put too much on him :). I like the sounds of what Kwesi can bring, but honestly think that by the end of the year we need Grant to be EARNING more minutes because he can bring similar D and rebounding, but more offense. Good pick up to bring in Kwesi, sounds like just what we need and high character guy. Can't play 4 on 5 on offense though. I am a big Paul fan until proven otherwise. Really pulling for him to stay healthy and contribute 10 minutes a game. I think it may be that he reminds me of Jim Shields. I remember Shields being much maligned on campus in years 1 and 2 and defending him over a beer or two or three or more. Went on to be the CAA tournament MVP and lead us to the NCAA. I am pulling for similar from Paul down the line.

I actually see PF as more a Bill Flye type of player, a guy with a good outside shot who could eventually expand his game into becoming more of an inside out player. Flye was never really a 5, didn't have the bulk, more of a 4 with the shooting ability of a 3 or 2. His senior year, we didn't really have a true 5 and Tarrant pressed him into duty as a makeshift 5. I see Paul as more of that type of player, hopefully a guy who can bloom into a star by his senior year.

kee, IMHO Paul is a banger. I mean, he is 6'10 or 6'11' and 240 pounds or more. Had you been at practice the other day you would have seen that Paul was the biggest guy on the floor; not just the tallest, but the biggest. Paul when healthy (and hopefully that will continue) is/will be a force in the middle. OSC

Paul may indeed be a banger, but his body certainly has not held up that end of the bargain. Flye ended up being more of a banger by his senior year, but his ability to play inside out was his biggest contribution to the team's success. I see PF in more of that type of role, especially if he wants to remain healthy and playing. To me, Kwesi is the real banger on this year's team.

Maybe, kee. But while Kwesi has a strong upper body, his legs are pretty skinny. Paul is MUCH bigger than Kwesi. OSC

I would very much like to be proven wrong about PF's ability to bang under the glass, but his recent medical history up to this point has proven otherwise.

Flye and Winicki played great their senior years. Paul is such a nice guy, hope he has that defensive fire in him.

Check out the new team photo. Zoom in. Paul is one big dude as is Grant. Trust your eyes. OSC
