Dr. Ronald Crutcher

Well, Rocco said yesterday that he gets a text or call from Crutcher after every game, so one would think they've talked about his concerns in the past. Not sure what Crutcher's schedule looks like, but im sure he's not sitting around playing solitaire in his office. Yes, I do think Crutcher should be given credit for having a face to face meeting with Rocco . It debunks the argument that he could give a rat's ass what happens with the program.

So the speculation is:

A) Meeting yesterday to continue back and forth discussion about future and funding.
B) an employee giving his boss notice that he's leaving
C) meeting to tell Rocco that he will definitely get all of his concerns taken care of if he stays
D) meeting to tell Rocco that he needs to publicly say that Crutcher is in fact committed and "gets it" -- in an effort not to run off any great coaching candidates in the future
E) meeting for Rocco to tell Crutcher he's decided to stay
G) meeting for Rocco to tell Crutcher that Gill needs to take a hike.

I don't get that the organization you are in charge of has a problem, a big problem, that's gone public and you want to give him credit for meeting with the senior management individual to try and resolve it? Good grief you have no expectations of leadership.

H. Meeting for Rocco to examine Mooney's albatross of a contract and figure out how to get out of it; if he succeeds, he gets all the things he's asking for. If he fails, Gill becomes head coach and Queally takes over as AD.

F) A meeting where our maximum leader- Ronald Crutcher- tells his subordinate- Danny Rocco- that he, Ronald Crutcher, is in charge. That Rocco better shape up or he will be out of a job for insubordination.

Otherwise, known as take the job(s) you have in hand?

Sent an email to Crutcher. Basically laid out the landscape and his position of responsibility. Told him how Cooper screwed things up. Said that the alumni wanted a win/win situation - asked that he not underestimate anything.

Oh, and he did put out a statement of support for Mooney towards the end of last year. But this year when the topic is Rocco (you know, a coach that actually WINS), we hear crickets. He's either in over his head, or he's QB'ing an agenda

Once this is resolved with Rocco, we need to initiate a campaign for new AD leadership.

Honestly, if Rocco leaves this is on Gill more than anyone else. He runs the AD. Can he not manage his shop?

it's hard to market our athletics effectively when we're constantly playing cleanup due to self-inflicted PR fiascos

Yep. Zero expectations.

willingness to meet with Rocco ( an employee)? If you have a crisis in your organization that has gone public wouldn't you meet with the employee (especially a senior management employee) automatically? I'm guessing this has been going on an while and Crutcher as the boss should have gotten involved long before now.

Yeah, I mentioned this previously. There has been a lot of bad business going on at UR, from my perspective on the outside.

No one on here agrees with you on this, not even Rocco. Why do you persist?
Who is ultimately responsible for the athletic department at UR? Gill or Crutcher. Who influences most the vision for the football program Gill or Crutcher? The strategic vision is set by the head of the organization. The vision is then communicated to subordinates to carry out the plan. Rocco's criticism of the vision for the program 2 weeks ago was squarely aimed at Crutcher. How am I wrong?

In the end, the buck stops at Crutcher's desk -- but each dept head is directly responsible for their own group.

For example, if the Law School is going up in smoke, scandals with professors, students cheating, rankings drop, etc the first person responsible is the law school dean. same thing with Athletics Dept. Gill is the dept head, his job is to run a successful AD, free of hogwash and spectacles.

Crutcher is going to feel some heat, no doubt... but the first person in the lion's den is Gill -- the leader that's in the RC every day (or whenever he's there). Now, if these scenarios continue to drag on over time, then Crutcher is going to have explaining to do as well.

No matter the fault, the way this thing has played out makes UR look really bad. Couple this with other happenings, wow. I can't find the words.

One cannot absolve Crutcher in this mess. The last time a coach resigned in protest, the University President was directly responsible.
You've embarrassed yourself enough in these threads. You are rambling on with zero evidence of anything. Just stop.

I disagree with your assessment of Dr. Crutcher with respect to the current dilemma inasmuch as he seems to have taken very positive steps once he was made aware of the situation. He met with the coach, assured him that he shared his vision and made certain other assurances that needed to be made. It may have already been too late at that time, who knows? However, he seems to have confronted the situation at his first knowledge of it and assured the coach that he shares his vision for the football program and recognizes the importance of athletics within the overall university setting. In coaches own words, "he gets it."

This is the first crisis in athletics that has come up since he arrived a short year and a half ago and he has handled it as well as any other President would have under the same circumstances. He was not hired to- be a micro-manager. His objectives span a larger vista. And Keith Gill was not his hire.

He may have erroneously assumed that Gill had everything under control, as did we all, at least with respect to what was posted on this board. However, it is apparent to all that once he became aware of the problem, Dr. Crutcher has done nothing other than his best to remedy the problem and try to persuade our coach to stay. What more can you ask of him?

My position is that you and I have no earthly idea what has happened, and until we know actual facts, it's absurd to randomly assign blame. Facts matter.
