Deflating

KJ/Mancuso running ability will create a much more balanced offense next season.

While our short yardage was a problem all season, the running game was effective. Collins and X were picking up big chunks last night.

Can't have a balanced offense if you don't call running plays.

I agree with virtually your whole post....except 'the defense he inherited'. His preferred scheme may have been a bigger part of the problem than the talent on hand. We'll never know.

Well, we had 3 guys on the defense last year that were n NFL camps ... and the defense was not very good last year. The improvement of the D since Elon has been pretty notable to me.

I'm done with football and the lousy coaching that we've had this year. If Roccos replacement hadn't come in and changed everything, it might have been a different story this year. My tickets for next week will go unused.

I'll take them.

For what it's worth, my take on the year:

If Danny stays we're in the playoffs. It was his team , his systems were in place. I do believe the offense would have been much more balanced and that would have taken pressure off the defense and that equates to acouple more wins in close games

As far as huesman, I don't think he can be judged too critically this year , it wasn't his team and he couldn't implement his offense this year and transistion to his defense is tough when you inherit other coaches players that used a different scheme. If he wins Saturday and ends up 6-5 In a transition year it might be dissapointing but hardly a disaster by any means

Frankly huesman gets judged in year three when majority of the players are his recruits and both offense and defense schemes are his as well. He will totally own it then. I think that's the reality of it all

Personally, I wished Danny hadnt left and that Gill would have left earlier but that didn't happen did it

If it makes you feel any better with NH beating Elon, I don't think a win at JMU would have gotten us into the playoffs. We are pretty much stuck in a 6th place finish in the CAA. We need to win Saturday just to assure that.

Go spiders keep the winning season streak going.

I dont understand why some are throwing in the towel.

A. We can send the Indians to the offseason with a winless conf season.
B. We can finish with a winning record.
C. We can get the Cap Cup back in the Rob where it belongs.
D. We get payback for that fluke dumpster fire down in Zable last year.

Attendance will prob be light. Be surprised if that many Indian fans make the trip.

Empty the tank.

Agreed. Hopefully we get some good weather too. I wouldn't be surprised by a good crowd next Saturday for all the reasons you have listed above.

Oh, and I dont know about anyone else, but im motivated to see our defense punish...i mean shut down that little RB that bailed on us in the 11th hour last winter.

What are our rushing stats on the year? How do they rank nationally?

SpiderRick, if another Spider can use your tickets, are they available?

Wife talked me down off the ledge last night, reminding me that she holds degrees from both schools, as did her mother, who passed four weeks ago at age 95.
Wife said that we WILL go.........the boss has spoken. BTW in case you are wondering, she ALWAYS wears red and blue..........

This hurts under normal circumstances but coming on the heels of last night, it's crushing.

Consider me one that doesn't care about the W&M rivalry at this point. I'm onto Bball season.
I'm sure the seniors will appreciate your lack of support in their final game as a Spider.

Sorry about previous- computer deserted me. So, 05, how is moving on to basketball working for you?

I'd like to see Kyle really add some more yards/TDS/completions to his records. Hopefully he can tack on another 300+ game with a couple TDs. I appreciate the last 4 years of all those guys, really a great run.

Keeler/Briscoe/Sam Houston game v Houston Baptist starts before our game.Keeler will try to pad Briscoe’s passing yardage that is now 92 yards behind Kyle’s.Our sideline should be made aware of Briscoe’s final numbers.
Kyle could be playing not only to beat the Tribe but also possible 1st team All American status including Walter Camp and even the top FCS offensive player award -Walter Payton award.

Well, according to the stats on rivals we are averaging 103 yards per game rushing which ranks 243rd nationally. Very bad...at least for a program that expects to be playing for championships. Some of those numbers have been effected by how much we rely on Kyle's passing prowess and I think the staff realized early in the season that we just weren't moving people off the line in the run game. Huesman literally said it several times in his press conferences. I think we probably got away from even calling runs at some times during the year figuring our best option was Kyle throwing the ball (A very reasonable thought process).

You hear a lot of coaches and pundits these days talk about "complementary football". The offense running clock and keeping the ball away from the other team while your defense gets to rest. We have an explosive offense but when you rely on the pass so much you hit spurts where you get several 3 and outs and then your defense gets worn out. A lot of times its better to get a bunch of first downs over several drives than one big 70 yard pass play and then a bunch of quick 3 and outs.
