Deflating

IMHO, Rocco would have had UR in the playoffs. But we were a hair away from beating the #1 team in the country. We MUST beat W&M. We are still a win or two away from tying the record.

100% agree with that. Kyle Lauletta is one of the best players to ever come through UR and there are some other seniors who really need the support. It's been a tough year but we can still finish with a winning season and also spank the Indians which will be a good feeling. Go out support the team as we beat William and Mary and build momentum towards next year. Hope to see Kyle go out with a win. I honestly may come home this weekend to see this game, I haven't been to a UR game this year and I've never gone a season without going to a game.

No offense but most WCAC high school teams could beat our basketball team.
New AD, hopefully better than the last empty suit that had the job. No offense, but Monacan could have dropped 40 on our football team until last week.

You support the team for there are some disappointed seniors who need to see
fan support next Saturday and who had brought a lot of wins for UR. Pride is what
they are playing for and we owe them our appreciation.
Sorry, truth is that I could care less about the disappointment of the seniors. They have received a full ride to a prestigious school for four years (or more). They owe us. We do not owe them. While respect and appreciation for their efforts are appropriate, we need to keep the proper perspective and let them know that we expect them to earn their scholarship. Until we adopt this attitude across the board, we do them a disservice in allowing them to just go through the motions and we fool ourselves into believing that such an attitude is appropriate and will lead to success.

iSpider, I can’t remember have you ever mentioned if you have children?

Defense played great today until that last drive where they looked gassed. It's taken the defense most of the year to adjust to Huesman's scheme and they are finally playing instead of thinking. Too many penalties and drops today. We still can't run the ball and that leaves us with no "easy" play action passes to wide open WRs. Can't fault the effort today but just didn't execute.

KJ/Mancuso running ability will create a much more balanced offense next season.

Football played it's butt off today. They need our full support next Saturday and they deserve it. It wasn't long ago that beating WM and having a winning season was a good season. Let's find a way to enjoy that.

Basketball, quite honestly, is a total joke and has been for a long time.

If a winning season and beating W&M is the sign of a good season, then we haven't made any headway in this last 15 years. That would be a huge disappointment.

110% agree that the guys played their tails off today and did us all proud.

I know I'll be there next week yelling and making as much noise as I can. Think back about what these guys have lived through over the years, and yet they have been successful in spite of it. They have not given up and thus I refuse to give up on them. Beating W&M is always a good thing, it's an important game, it's the last one, and finally a winning season is still a goal worth chasing.

Playing Tribe will be a good game to increase Kyle’s numbers in order to lengthen the distance between he and the rest of the FCS QB pack.

We should all show our appreciation to a senior class that has carried us to three playoff runs out of four years. You guys continue to dream about a quality basketball program and all we get is mediocrity year after year. This group of football seniors has made me more proud and given me more to cheer for in four years than the last twelve basketball seasons. That said the shame is the football team is used to most of you fair weather fans criticizing things and not showing up anyway.

When was the last time neither team had a chance at the playoffs heading into this game?

I'm done with football and the lousy coaching that we've had this year. If Roccos replacement hadn't come in and changed everything, it might have been a different story this year. My tickets for next week will go unused.

I'm sorry Ispider, but that may be the most ignorant thing I've seen on here in a long time. Those players don't owe you a damn thing. To make a statement like that shows you have no clue what we ask of these players. 4-5 years of getting up early, going to bed late. Believe me, they earn their scholarships. Committing themselves to year round weight training, diet, nutrition, workouts, practice, meetings, film study, game study, etc, etc. Putting their bodies through extreme punishment. Bodies that will remind them daily with aches and pains (or worse) for the rest of their lives that they played college football. All of this with school thrown on top. Not just any school, but one of the most academically rigorous schools in the country.
Who realizes that last year our team got back to Richmond at 3AM Sunday morning after beating North Dakota? That was also the beginning of exam week. So that week not only did our players (who had the fatigue of already having played 13 games) had to prepare for Eastern Washington and the national quarterfinals, they also had to take finals. They did the same the year before against ND State.
Yes, they get a "free" education to UR and the vast majority I have met are incredibly grateful for that, but they pay for it every day they are at Richmond. To say they owe you a damn thing is the height of arrogance and is just asinine.

We played hard today. Defense had made a lot of progress this year. We didn’t run it great today, but our running game is improving. You people do understand we played the number 1 team in the country, with the number 1 defense on the road today, right? I am disapointed we are not going to the playoffs, but we have made improvements that will continue into next year. I can’t wait for next Saturday. I love any chance I get to watch Spider Football and I will be there as soon as my lot opens. Beat the Tribe and send these seniors out the right way. I appreciate all the hard work, dedication, and wins they have given us over their time in the program.

Good thing our players didn't quit late in the season like some of our fans. Man some of us are a fickle bunch.

I will be there thanking Kyle and our seniors for what surely has not been an easy transition as we kick the $h!T out of WM and make Jimmie think long and hard about retirement.

And yes, Im pissed with how this season has been. Man up people, this is our rival and our seniors.

Pretty sure Kyle Lauletta and Co. don't owe you or us anything. Its been a privilege to watch him play.

I’d venture to guess people saying they aren’t showing up to a game on a message board to prove some kind of point ars just like people who say they are done posting here and then never actually go away.

Yes, they’re the same people that think they are more upset about the loss than the ones who actually played the game. No matter how disappointed I am that we lost to the Barneys, I know my disappointment pales in comparison to the players that actually laid it on the line in Harrisonburg today.

On a brighter note, ND is getting squashed by the best team in Florida (including the 3 semi-pro NFL teams).

Not sure how you can say that this year would have turned out any different with Rocco. The fact is, you don’t know. You ever think maybe Russ has done a good job improving the defense he inherited? We are a much better defensive team than we were at the start of the year. I’ll remind you, there are some issues with our roster. We don’t have a true nose tackle on the team. Why are some of you so quick to throw Russ and staff under the bus before year one is even in the books when probably none of you questioned his ability to lead our program when he was hired? Give the staff a couple years to correct roster issues and let’s see what happens.

Notre Dame is the most overhyped program in NCAA history. The only thing they are known for the last 30 years is almost beating a USC team that didn't win a national title.

We had a QB start for 3 years or more for the first time since Eric Ward, have him put up incredible numbers, and we squandered it all his senior year. We keep looking to the future with this new coaching staff, but we were built to win now. This is going to be a what might have been year for a long time.

I agree with virtually your whole post....except 'the defense he inherited'. His preferred scheme may have been a bigger part of the problem than the talent on hand. We'll never know.
