How many liked the Coach's decision to rush just 3 down lineman the entire game against one of the top two QB's in the country?

Of course if you blitz like crazy a good QB will chew you up. Don't think we realized how good that kid is. Not to mention he is their leading rusher.

Fumble lost on EWU 17 in 2Q
4th and 1 on EWU 3 in 2Q
Pass pick at EWU 30/line of scrimmage
Drive stalled at EWU 31
Plus 3 other lost fumbles, which led directly to 17 points.

We weren't going to win the game the way the offense lost the ball, but the defensive strategy wasn't going to hold up either. EWU stepped off the gas, could have thrown it all day with the 3 man rush. The system we play when facing a strong passing team is to always drop more in coverage but we never seem to stop any of those teams. ODU, UNH, even JMU.

We have good DBs but they can't cover indefinitely. Gubrud had all day.
EWU was rushing 4-5 and KJ was under pressure before he could get through his progression.

I think that a large reason for the failure for the offense was not being prepared to play on an icy field and the lack of traction as a result thereof. KJ lost confidence early when he knew he could not cut, move or plant his feet in the manner to which he was accustomed. It affected others as well.
After we failed to score on our first red zone opportunity, I believe he, and others, accepted that the new type of turf would take them away from the game they had played all year.

That and the fact of all the noise about the coach leaving had to have a huge impact on the team. DR's statement that such talk would not be a factor was nonsense. That was either coach speak or denial. Either way, it was wrong and a major negative factor in the attitude and play of the team.

Frustrating to watch three lineman doing a great job without an occasional blitz or a different front alignment.....so close so many times to a sack or a stop. Then EWU would send four and five men after KJ. Cleats were not the biggest problem. Wrong game plan and turnovers....eerily similar to the 1st Appy ....Armanti Edwards game.

when playing an offense like that, you have to outscore them. you may get a stop or two but they are going to score and you must do the same.

You can talk Xs and Os all day, but this team never had a chance. Fly across the country, play a very tough North Dakota team. Fly back early Sunday morning. Take exams all week, what'd they get, maybe 4 or 5 hours (tops) to practice; fly back across the country to play the #2 team in the country, at their place in freezing cold, snowy and icy conditions. With almost half the starters gone from injuries. It would have taken a miracle to even have played them respectably. This team gave all they had, they just didn't have much left.

It was said earlier that the coaches didn't prepare them to play under those conditions. I can't believe that, they knew all week that it had snowed and the forecast was for more.

The "Similar part".... was a wrong defensive game plan.....our linemen "almost" had their hands on Appy's Armanti all night but he rushed for over 300 yds. and they scored 35 points in the 1st half!! The Spider come-back was short lived. Coach told me after the game, they knew they had the wrong defensive game plan. He also said if we play Armanti again next year, we'll get it right and they did!! Armanti threw 5 interceptions.

Not to mention your coach has one foot out the door.

The firest game we were missing both starting DEs, middle LB and strong safety. With those players back and Armanti not at a 100%, advantage Spiders.
