So serious question here: what exactly are we doing on defense? The D has been pretty suspect for most of the season and was particularly poor on Thursday. There have been a couple bright spots in a half here and there but few games where we played well on D from start to finish.
What I noticed against St. Joe’s were two things, 1) we seemed to have an extremely open lane against the dribble drive and 2) I notice an extensive amount of switching.
Can someone more experienced in defensive philosophy explain how this switching should be working and if we are reverting somewhat to the switching man/matchup zone defense we used to employ? It’s clearly not the same but it feels to me like we are maybe shifting modestly back to that.
