Might as well fire this up early. We're going to be looking for more than two Division 2 opponents next year, so who should they be?

My top candidate is Shorter University from Georgia. They were 6-20 this year in D2 and, well, they're Shorter, so we should be able to dunk on them. Maybe we can play them in their gym to boost our NET a bit, and on that same trip, we can stop over and play Georgian Court. They were 6-20 this year, but I bet the pomp and circumstance of their fanbase arriving would be something to behold.

Other good options: West Virginia State (committee might look fast and think it was WVU) and Seton Hill of Pennsylvania (could be confused for a Big East win in similar fashion).

Regardless, I'm excited about this new approach to our scheduling.

Definetly gonna have at least 2 of them next year. Mooney needs to pad his win total. 10 wins looks a lot more respectable than 8 wins.

I fell in love watching college basketball live around age 10 watching Columbus College (GA) now Columbus State where my dad was a professor. The mid '80s Cougars team was crazy good for D2 - played in a gym smaller than my high school year at that point. So let's add them to the list ... but big risk I'm afraid if we don't reload. They had their best season probably since the mid 80's and were 26-4 this season and are hosting the D2 SE regional this weekend (in a much larger gym).

Keep it in state...how about Ferrum?

Making the jump to D2 next year and playing VMI in football....Coach with Richmond ties who played at Collegiate. Id suggest VUU and Va. St. but figured you meant this as a pay game and not one we could potentially lose.

I both hate and love that you came up with this thread.

Damn you, and god I admire you.

A lot of A10 schools played D2 schools, including Dayton, St. Louis and Loyola. It is becoming harder to schedule D1 programs, especially quality schools.

We know. And it is hard to rebound. Hard to play defense. Hard to win on the road.

Culture of softness.
Almost every A10 school has had to fill out its schedule with a D2 school. Your post ignores the concentration of power in the hands of the P-4 schools. They pushing out the lower tiered schools.

Sadly, they closed last year

A lot of schools will be facing this in the coming years. Those 2008 declining birth rates are coming of college age. Add in the cost and return of a college diploma, many of these schools wont be able to adjust. Wont be shocked to see it happen to a few VA schools as well.
