Congratulations to our team for receiving a 2nd seed in the NIT. It shows that the organizers looked past the injury riddled end to the season and recognized what a great team we have. The players are on campus to play basketball and will have an opportunity to continue the season. We are looking forward to seeing them team play and will be cheering them on to win our first NIT Championship.

For those bitter negative fans who think the NIT is beneath U of R. It would be helpful to the team if you could either post positive comments or stay silent until the tournament ends.

Go Spiders!

I think you poked the bear. But hey, I admire your commitment.

These sentiments are seconded. This team deserves our respect and support.

Great teams haven’t played in NIT since the 50s. With 1 exception the Spiders 2000-01 team that was banned from CAA tournament.

Ha. The 1974 Maryland Terps, probably the second- or third-best team in the country that year, might disagree.

I think you should have said the 80s. When the NCAA expanded to 64 in 1985 it took 5 years to dilute the NIT. So 1989 had good teams...

It will be interesting to see what team we are able to field for Wednesday game. Worst case scenario is that we will be missing 3 of 5 pre-season starters and 4 of top 8 players. Best case is that 3 of these players play injured. It would be very impressive if this team could go all the way. Whatever the ultimate starting 5 is, I hope it is not revealed until game time in order to make it more difficult for Toledo to prepare.

Since the NCAA tournament isn’t starting until Thursday. We should have a good TV audience.

I got the email from the athletic department about the game which linked to this article https://richmondspiders.com/news/20...n-spot-in-nit-will-face-toledo-wednesday.aspx

And wouldn't you know there is a quote from CM where he uses the magic word!

"I'm thrilled to have the chance to continue our season," said Richmond head coach Chris Mooney. "I want to thank the NIT for selecting us and I'm looking forward to our matchup with Toledo, who has had an outstanding year. We've got a lot of work to do over the next three days, but I'm looking forward to having another opportunity to compete with this team."

That is a great point. This team must work hard and compete.

if I was a fan of any of the other 330 or so D1 teams I could just laugh at this shyster snake oil salesman getting paid millions upon millions for years on end to just barely skate by, but as luck would have it I chose to attend the University of Richmond and get caught in the web that is Spiders basketball
🕷🕸😢

Don't see Crabtree trying to come back for just a game or so when he's been out this long. Get well for next year, buddy...we'll need ya.

He was supposed to be out 10–12 weeks...it's been 11.

So you're saying 10-12 weeks and it's been 11........so he can start rehabbing and be ready to play in the NIT championship game.........................

Surely let's praise Mooney he won such a huge game? Wait a sec. What happen during the conference tournament? I don't remember such things. Things only get such brighter from here. I see St.Louis in front of us. I can't seem to move St.Louis at all. Sir, we competed and won the previous game. Don't worry about it!!! We just signed another 10 year extension for your shocking victory against Toledo!!! IN THE NIT! What is the NIT? A tournament set up for teams that finished in second place. Everyone gets a trophy in these woods. GREAT

Amazing game of the team. It was a special win.

Mooney did a great job coaching, with an impressive comeback.
80s I like your positive attitude, but please tell me what exactly CM did to earn your praise. I saw a 5 sec violation on an inbounds play after a timeout. I saw unnecessary fouls stopping the clock and giving 1 and 1 opportunities. What really happened was that Toledo choked.

That being said, I am happy that the Spiders won, didn’t give up, and were having fun on the sidelines. I think it was the bench spirit that carried over and won the game.

Only schedule St. Marys (MD) and Toledo next year we might go undefeated. Avoid St.Louis and VCU those schools are a bit too tough.

It was a good win.

We all wish this type of performance was the norm this year. It wasn’t. But that shouldn’t take away from the performance and the win.

Saw some really good things from the young guys.

Right I failed the first lesson of the dark side. Only remember a win never a loss. Always try your best but get that fresh hair cut.
