Coach Mooney

Coach Mooney deserve credit for putting together one of the best mid major teams in the country and his coaching has been terrific this week. It started with the easy win over Morehead State and good time management of our starters. Despite losing Sherod, multiple starters in foul trouble, an off night shooting by our 2 all-conference guards, our well coached team kicked #10 Kentucky’s bxxx. Coach Mooney has received significant criticism in the past and it is time he receives our praises for a job well done. Thanks Coach!

I would say that Coach Mooney out-coached John Calipari today.

Gilyard had the right attitude in his postgame. Just a step in the journey. And Moon man can get credit along that way. I liked how he had us ready this week. Besides being cold as ice 1st half today we’ve been pretty surgical offensively. But for Mooney especially it’s the destination that really counts. It’s been 10 years it has to. We should be top mid major in country but not determined after 2 games. Big time W but long way to go for victory laps.

I have certainly delivered my fair share of criticism of Mooney, and will give him credit today. He has embraced change and he has done a great job building a roster and developing players. He lets guys play through their mistakes a little more. This win was sweet and it didn’t appear to be a fluke. Great win on the mothership.

I'm man enough to give Moondog his due tonight. He had the guys ready to play, has a terrific 13 man roster right now.

Everytime, I saw him during the game, he looked cool, calm, and relaxed.

most of good coaching is done over time, not in game. especially in an offensive system like ours. our defensive help and recover isn't taught overnight either. such a huge advantage to have a talented veteran team. Mooney can tweak things in game, but he isn't teaching in game.

nobody's going to feel sorry for Calipari, but that guy has to be pulling his hair out each year starting from scratch with so many freshmen. helps of course that he always has ridiculous talent to work with.

I disagree. Mooney's handling of the fouls on Golden showed Coach's strengths. Also, I liked Coach's response when Gilyard picked up his third foul. Coach Mooney was going to sub him out, Gilyard waived him off and stayed in the game. Mooney trusts this team.

I'm not sure what we disagree about. I'm a big Mooney believer. I like how he runs this program.
as for outcoaching Calipari, I didn't notice special in-game adjustments on either side. maybe there were, since we effectively played through foul trouble. but we run what we run and they run what they run. Calipari looked exasperated at times. his freshmen are learning on the job. our seniors know Coach's system like the back of their hand.

He had a good one vs. Morehead. Thinking about this further it was so strange. Like if u r going to go no logo 1 of the 2 games why wasn't it Morehead with a limited viewing on youtube instead of the masses on a high profile ESPN game vs. UK when you'll get lot of air time. Come on Moon. We pay you over a Milly. These things are in coaching contracts for that reason too. If no suit u gotta rep the Spider. Terrible branding on espn wasted. Instead u wore a sweater pullover that was probably a gift from your mother in law just to match the mask.

We will see how good a coach Chris Mooney is. How he manages this team, this year, will be telling. Can he build on this momentum? Or do his players let down, after an historic win? Are they ready to take on Charleston?
