“Everybody has a responsibility. If you play one minute or 20 minutes, everybody has a responsibility. Every coach has a responsibility. What could we have done to better prepare ourselves?” UR coach Chris Mooney said.

Did the RTD leave out his response to his own question? So much like 47, never accepting any self responsibility.

Obviously, you don’t ever want to have a game like this,” Mooney said. “Everything has to be instructive, and hopefully we’ll be better because of it and not hang our heads but get to work and try to see the things we can improve upon and give ourselves better chances to compete in games.”

Yes I know this was in another thread but it needs to be front and center, “compete in games,” not win games. Yes there is a chasm between the two goals, one is success and one is merely an accepted chance od success.

“Aim at Heaven and you will get earth ‘thrown in’: aim at earth and you will get neither.”

Yes. I noted that as well in the quotes. The focus was entirely on the players. It has always been that way. Again, we have a leadership school and leadership 101, says the buck stops with me. Good leaders always give credit to others and take the blame for failure.

At least go 50/50 haha.

Will say, not a fan of the way Cronin throws players under the bus. BUT, it did seem to work, I think they have won 6 in a row, with three ranked teams in time since he did that.

Mooney is great at deflecting criticism, and blaming the system. I think if we had a big donor that came up and said: "I have 5 million for you to use to buy best players possible" he would defer, as that would take away an excuse.

100% he is a system blamer. That is his bread and butter. Anyone in the business world want to hire someone to run their company who constantly is like well the deck is stacked against us and this why we are what we are. No of course you would never hire someone like that to run your company. But we got that guy running our MBB program.

Exactly, to use my ol Dutcher comparison. Like a lot of coaches, he is not crazy about the system, but he says that is what we are dealing with and we have to adapt and learn how to thrive. Mooney and Hardt are still adjusting, and still thinking about it, and deflecting. In the last two years in portal, SDSU lost starting PG to become starting at PG at Kentucky, starting wing to become starting wing at Ohio State, Starting PF to bench at UVA :) and I think one more I forget. But Dutcher does not sit there and blame the system. Mooney is a BLAMER.
