Chu

Yeah, I actually don't ever remember Mooney starting a senior on senior night who was not at least a guy who played 10 minutes or more regularly. I specifically remember a few occasions when I thought he had a chance to do that but didn't. Nothing against him for not doing it, it just doesn't seem like something he has ever done in the past. Maybe he will change tomorrow, who knows.

Keef have u been to our senior nights? B/c I'm not aware of us doing this. So I guess we have no class according to you. I dont expect Chu to start, but I hope we win handily and he plays late. Spiderman is right your "classy programs all do this" statement is wrong, most programs do not, including ones I consider having plenty of class which is very subjective anyway. Good for McKillop that's his choice. For some reason people think this is prominent kind of like scheduling an away game at senior players hometown areas. Extremely rare, I mean the big programs don't even play any true road games OOC anymore at all unless it is a league challenge.

What happens if you have 6 seniors (including walk ons) 1 poor senior cant get the start on senior night. I'm also wondering if this applies to other sports such as football. That senior walk on QB has to get first series of game. Mind Blown.

Chu will be honored well & I think more important than a start is if he could characterize his whole career at UR as being treated with class and my guess is he would.
No it depends on the situation. This year it just happens to work out, We have one non-starting senior and If we can't beat St Louis (the team with the worse record in out league) at home with Chu starting for a minute or so then we don't deserve to be a fourth seed much less a NCAA at large bid.

If y'all have read the alumni magazine spotlight on Chu, he doesn't care about playing time, etc. He is clearly a student of the game and wants the best for the team. That being said, I'm sure we get up by 15+ in the second half, Chu and K0 will run things for a while and then Chu & Scout Crew will finish it out.

I seem to recall that Zak Estes and Liam Billings, both walk-on seniors, started and played less than a minute against Dayton on Senior Night in 2012. Seems like we could do the same for Chu on Saturday.

That was the last time I remember that we had this situation (senior walk-ons on Senior Night).

Well your recollection is wrong. They came in at very end of Dayton game. Same with Jonathan Benjamin in 13-14' vs. DUQ, Benjamin was actually our last senior walk-on (13-14') not those 2.

OK, so my recollection was wrong. That still doesn't change the fact that we should start Chu against the worst team in the league on Saturday.

Kee, if all knowing BuzzKiller says there is no Chu then there is no Chu.

Mooney will probably have to wait until close to the end of the game to put Chu in. Don't want to run up the score too badly with him raining threes all over the place.

Why do so many on this forum think that they have the right to tell others what to think or say?

Because so many on this forum are opinionated know-it-alls who can't make others think or do as they wish in real life, so they try to do it here instead.

Chu knows and understands his role for this team and I sure as heck think, he would be devastated if he started and we ended up losing by a bucket or two. If we're 8-20, go ahead and start him, play him all game for all I care. We're in the midst of a run for an at large bid, we need to come out and try to lay the wood to SLU on Saturday.

If we can't beat the last place team with Chu playing 3-4 minutes, we don't deserve post season play, period. I don't consider Chu to be a liability, it's not like he's an amputee or something, the kid CAN play basketball and is the best shot on the team.
I (and many other fans) will be very disappointed if he only gets in for the last 45 seconds

I like Chris Mooney - and I have always appreciated how well he represents our University. That having been said...

"Hey Chris - why did you turn into such a hardheaded SOB tonight when the crowd was yelling for Chu? We started a chant at 3:45 when we had, I believe, a 16-point lead. Would it have KILLED you to put Zack in the ballgame for some decent playing time? The more we chanted, the more you folded your arms and appeared irritated. Leading by a bunch and giving Zack Chu 1:30 of playing time at the end? It bothered me, Coach, that you seemed to get more hardheaded, and basically blew us off when you had a big lead, as if you were going to show us that you are the boss and we're not. And Zack didn't need to come in when Kendall came out - he should have been able to get his own applause - not have it matched to Kendall's."

"It also bothered me that when Zack hit both free throws, you sat on the bench like a little boy who had just had his toys taken away. You really pissed off a lot of people tonight - because we know that it is not just about you - it is about all of us. We thought that you really cared about Chu - and now we are not sure if there is still a little part of you that is an arrogant Princeton sh*t."

That having been communicated, we wish you luck in the conference tournament. We will never give up rooting for you or rooting for your team. Kicking some butt and making the postseason is now a possibility, since your staff and your players never gave up when we seemed headed for mediocrity. And winning late in the season without Khwan Fore and Alonzo is even more impressive.

Let's put the Chu thing behind us and focus on kicking serious butt. There is still plenty of opportunity for continued success. We would love to see you guys on SportsCenter some more.

Go Spiders!

I have no problem with when zack went in, the lecturing is a little tedious. So he got two minutes instead of three and a half.SERIOUSLY? What's the big deal.

Agree, TBone. Some people just need to chill. At 3:30 left the game wasn't 100% put away . . . only up around 12 or 13. As many double digit leads as we've blown this season, felt we needed another possession or two to be sure. Really glad Zach got in the time he did and in the box with a rebound and 2 pts. Lecturing our coach on how he should act on Sr Night is ridiculous. He was smiling as much as anyone when Zach was in. Get over it . . . coach's job is to win games and I for one am very happy with tonight's result.

You also never want to show up other teams/players/coaches. Treating them with respect is part of coaching. Could he have gotten an extra minute? Sure, probably. But while you were focused on Zach, maybe you missed where coach was focused on maximizing Kendall's playing time in his last home game and symbolically having Chu sub him out. Kendall's only our most important player and the all time leader in 3s made at UR.

Forest for the trees...

What a great way to go out. Zack scored the last points, in the last game of the season, at the end of his senior year.
