CAA = Coastal Athletic Association

I don't think so. It seems more reflective of the changing face of the league and where its programs actually are located, which is also what the league said in its announcement. And that makes sense.

JOC is the one drawing connections to the GW situation, which is his prerogative to do and probably worth bringing up, but he probably should have explained if the same reasoning was at play here.

Certainly your prerogative to think that, but the "colonial" moniker fit well when the league was mostly Virginia teams, but probably not as well now when most of it is spread out in places that don't really think of their "colonial" heritage.

If a league called the Desert Sun went from a bunch of Arizona schools to a bunch located in Minnesota, I suspect it might change its name too.

most of the teams are on the coast, so it does work.
but nobody changes a conference name. we're still the Atlantic 10, even though we aren't 10 and a bunch of our teams are nowhere near the Atlantic.

no, I believe it was changed because some people are offended by the term "Colonial".
All of the 14 teams are located within the Original 13 Colonies which have all been considered "Colonials" for a couple of centuries.

Decide for yourself why the name was changed. Seems obvious.

Not for this board, so one and done (but can't allow this to dangle).

It hurts folks like me that can't conceive how anyone could possibly find it offensive. Must be pretty faint hearted folks. It is our history.

As with every country - mistakes made, mistakes admitted, corrective efforts made in past, present, and future ones being debated.

Much more about our historical record to celebrate rather than denigrate.

Worrying about "Colonials" rather than true issues seems silly and shallow.

Any responses should go to Off Topic Board. Set up a thread if you like. No need to pollute the Basketball Board with the culture wars.
