Only mentioned two, North Dakota and Towson...missed the last 4 out =-- who were they
Said the 5 Mo Valley teams in "bottom half" bracket -- at least the potential is still there for an all CAA
Completely agree and don't like that the selection committee paired the CAA schools in the same tripod. One thing we'll have going for us is the bye which will help immensely. Looks like another double header dec 5th!
So in the eyes of the committee the CAA order for 3 teams that tied for league champs was JMU followed by UR followed by W&M. We were the auto bid, but JMU wins against SMU & heads Gameday. Are those possible real factors???? Head to head we beat JMU on the road at the purple stadium, and W&M also beat JMU. Doesn't seem to make a lot of sense. I'd really like to know what goes into the logic of rankings of the committee. I'm guessing they have minimal detail to go on or are not much more than figureheads making quick & arbitrary decisions with little logic. At the start of the show there was a slight mention of JMU being ranked ahead of us but no follow up. I'd have enjoyed having that question asked of the committee chair.
Is there anyone lobbying on behalf of CAA teams or providing input?
I also find it questionable how potential 2nd round games could be all CAA if we things go as should. Seems to me that there are could have been realistic alternatives based upon the FCS geographical considerations. Example - It's not like NH is right next door to JMU. I also realize that W&M is next door to UR, but...
Don't want to get ahead of myself, but JMU has a pretty nice draw. If they get past NH they could play Mac State. Take a look at Mac's schedule - impressive wins over Mississippi College & Incarnate Word. The rest of their schedule looks soft. I'll bet we could have gone undefeated too with that schedule.
I realize in the end, a team has to play its best and run the table this time of the year, but seeding does play a factor.
I know they like to reduce travel time but this is ridicules Two CAA teams will be eliminated in the second round. BS The conferences need to be mixed up to compare strength of conference.
Fordam and Chat. distance wise, would have been just as regional a match why do we have to play a CAA team we've all ready played (NH or WM). In fact I'd like to have a crack at Coastal again.. Money has got to be the root of this stupidity. (and I don't mean transportation money)Richmond is definitely in the tougher half of the draw. The committee obviously was doing pairings geographically. Charleston Southern, The Citadel, and Coastal Carolina all in the same bracket. Personally, I would much rather we play New Hampshire again than W&M, especially at our place. But I did notice yesterday that the Tribe had a ton of guys not dressed for the game (I counted 18 on the sideline), they are really decimated by injuries.
Quick shout-out to Griffin Trau, there was a lot of pressure on the young man coming in for the first time in such an important game. We haven't had the best of luck kicking extra points over the years, but both of his were strong solid kicks. And I didn't mind the pooch kick strategy, it took away long return possibilities, and Deadmon has been deadly (no pun intended) returning kickoffs this year. Way to go, Griffin!
The transportation money is not that horribilly different between say Fordam and WM.the NCAA is a business--I believe a non profit--but that is debatable for another time. This is a money losing event--therefore they keep the expenses down by having the first two rounds all regional.the only rule is no first round re-matches, other than that, it is all about keeping expenses down.
NH to JMU? not hardly distance or transportation cost issue.the NCAA is a business--I believe a non profit--but that is debatable for another time. So it's all about seat sales? what a way to run a playoff, how to fund the NCAA.Ticket sales are definitely a factor. $35 each. Got to imagine they think local games sell better
UR could very easily have not received a byeThere are plenty of questions about the seeding process and philosophy, but notice UR only 8-3 team that is seeded all other seeds are 9-2 or better. Couple 9-2 teams not seeded, most notably Coastal Carolina.

CCU & CSU were not both getting a seed. However I am sure the committee looked very hard at UTC (8-3 SoCon AQ) and if SDSU had won their final game they would have been in the discussion as well.
So would have been CAA AQ, SoCon AQ, an MVC, and a Big South for 2 spots...
I agree with everything you said but think CCU would've gotten a seed over us if they had won at Liberty. As respectable as it is to get the AQ from the CAA, we were very low in the computers. We're still around 20th in the Sagarin.
Wonder when/if two football teams have played each other twice in 15 days.
On the flip side, the CAA matchups does guarantee two teams in the quarterfinals.
Can somebody explain to me how this is a money losing event? What does this event cost the NCAA? I assume the schools pay transportation cost for their teams. I understand the participating teams have to guarartee a fee to the NCAA? What am I missing?the NCAA is a business--I believe a non profit--but that is debatable for another time.
