Bracket Discussion

Rattle their QB and he'll fold like a cheap suit. That's what happened yesterday.

Agreed Stonewall. There's the key. We will be ready for W&MM, cant believe coaches are looking too hard at Duquesne. Kinda like us v Morgan St last year

Completely agree and don't like that the selection committee paired the CAA schools in the same tripod. One thing we'll have going for us is the bye which will help immensely. Looks like another double header dec 5th!

Thought it might be a real double header. I expected the winner of EIU at UNI. Then UNI football & basketball could have rode on the same plane...

So in the eyes of the committee the CAA order for 3 teams that tied for league champs was JMU followed by UR followed by W&M. We were the auto bid, but JMU wins against SMU & heads Gameday. Are those possible real factors???? Head to head we beat JMU on the road at the purple stadium, and W&M also beat JMU. Doesn't seem to make a lot of sense. I'd really like to know what goes into the logic of rankings of the committee. I'm guessing they have minimal detail to go on or are not much more than figureheads making quick & arbitrary decisions with little logic. At the start of the show there was a slight mention of JMU being ranked ahead of us but no follow up. I'd have enjoyed having that question asked of the committee chair.

Is there anyone lobbying on behalf of CAA teams or providing input?

I also find it questionable how potential 2nd round games could be all CAA if we things go as should. Seems to me that there are could have been realistic alternatives based upon the FCS geographical considerations. Example - It's not like NH is right next door to JMU. I also realize that W&M is next door to UR, but...

Don't want to get ahead of myself, but JMU has a pretty nice draw. If they get past NH they could play Mac State. Take a look at Mac's schedule - impressive wins over Mississippi College & Incarnate Word. The rest of their schedule looks soft. I'll bet we could have gone undefeated too with that schedule.

I realize in the end, a team has to play its best and run the table this time of the year, but seeding does play a factor.

Committee infatuated with 9 wins and a win over one of the worst FBS teams - that is why Barneys were ranked ahead of us.........................

Not to mention the stupidity of 4 CAA possibly playing each other again in the 2nd round but if we and JMU win the next two we go to Harrisonburg to play them there even though we won the conference and beat them? My mistake. The bracket I was looking at appeared to have us and JMU in the same half. the one on the ncaa site doesn't

We won't play JMU until Frisco, if we have a rematch. 7th seed plays 2nd seed and then likely winner of 3rd and 6th seed.. Getting ahead of ourselves though.

The NCAA is pretty dopey. The bracket was expanded to 24 teams, several of which don't belong in the playoffs whatsoever. Then they over do the "regionalization". Effectively, they just made the regular season an extra week longer.

Richmond is definitely in the tougher half of the draw. The committee obviously was doing pairings geographically. Charleston Southern, The Citadel, and Coastal Carolina all in the same bracket. Personally, I would much rather we play New Hampshire again than W&M, especially at our place. But I did notice yesterday that the Tribe had a ton of guys not dressed for the game (I counted 18 on the sideline), they are really decimated by injuries.

Quick shout-out to Griffin Trau, there was a lot of pressure on the young man coming in for the first time in such an important game. We haven't had the best of luck kicking extra points over the years, but both of his were strong solid kicks. And I didn't mind the pooch kick strategy, it took away long return possibilities, and Deadmon has been deadly (no pun intended) returning kickoffs this year. Way to go, Griffin!

Not to mention the delicious irony that the Tribe mascot is the Griffin. That just made the great job Griffin Trau did yesterday even better. Agree completely with Spider Rick about the great kicking job the redshirt freshman Griffin Trau did yesterday,

I wonder if they count any FBS team as 9 win FCS team? Then
JMU

Wins over a 9, 7, & 6 losses to 8 & 8

UR

Wins over 8 & 8 losses to 9, 7 & 6

Disregarding location and assuming all other games are wins against lesser teams.

Still very debatable but not a clearly better resume with those vague descriptions...

It was complete and total garbage the way this thing went down. We win the league and do so by beating William and Mary, and our reward is to have to play William and Mary again? We beat JMU and their reward is to be ranked higher than us and have an easier path than us? Here's some insight into how this committee operates: it puts 24 names in a hat and draws them out one by one to figure out who's playing who.

I know they like to reduce travel time but this is ridicules Two CAA teams will be eliminated in the second round. BS The conferences need to be mixed up to compare strength of conference.

In the 8 2nd round games, there could be 2 all CAA games, 2 all MVC games, an all Big South game, an all Southland game, with only 2 non conference games, now that is some regionalization.

the NCAA is a business--I believe a non profit--but that is debatable for another time. This is a money losing event--therefore they keep the expenses down by having the first two rounds all regional.the only rule is no first round re-matches, other than that, it is all about keeping expenses down.

Fordam and Chat. distance wise, would have been just as regional a match why do we have to play a CAA team we've all ready played (NH or WM). In fact I'd like to have a crack at Coastal again.. Money has got to be the root of this stupidity. (and I don't mean transportation money)

The transportation money is not that horribilly different between say Fordam and WM.

NH to JMU? not hardly distance or transportation cost issue.

Ticket sales are definitely a factor. $35 each. Got to imagine they think local games sell better

Cheesy BS by NCAA to get rid of two CAA teams in second round. I try not to think all sports are fixed, but it's really hard.

Geez we have played W&M 125 times, how about something different for a change. Just stupid and disappointing.

I don't understand why people are surprised that the bracket is a lot of garbage. This is the NCAA. When have they not been horribly incompetent or focused just on the money? They absolutely don't care about running the best playoff. It's sad, and disappointing, but not surprising.

There are plenty of questions about the seeding process and philosophy, but notice UR only 8-3 team that is seeded all other seeds are 9-2 or better. Couple 9-2 teams not seeded, most notably Coastal Carolina.

UR could very easily have not received a bye

CCU & CSU were not both getting a seed. However I am sure the committee looked very hard at UTC (8-3 SoCon AQ) and if SDSU had won their final game they would have been in the discussion as well.

So would have been CAA AQ, SoCon AQ, an MVC, and a Big South for 2 spots...

I agree with everything you said but think CCU would've gotten a seed over us if they had won at Liberty. As respectable as it is to get the AQ from the CAA, we were very low in the computers. We're still around 20th in the Sagarin.

Yes, it seems they are looking harder at SOS these days, so your 4-6 wins against teams worse than 50th better not be against truly horrible teams.

Still think that is what happened when we were left out at 8-3...

Wonder when/if two football teams have played each other twice in 15 days.

On the flip side, the CAA matchups does guarantee two teams in the quarterfinals.

Anyway anyone looking forward to the A-10 battle between Dayton & Duquesne?

Can somebody explain to me how this is a money losing event? What does this event cost the NCAA? I assume the schools pay transportation cost for their teams. I understand the participating teams have to guarartee a fee to the NCAA? What am I missing?

Yes, the NCAA pays transportation plus a per diem of $130 for lodging and food for each member of the travel party, which can be up to 130 people (145 for the championship game).
