Blake Francis - Richmond commit

Blake has a very athletic family (see below). One cousin, Tyler Thornton, played for Duke and as I recall was a high school teammate of Cedrick Lindsay at Gonzaga high school in DC.

“Has one sibling, Branden, who played football at Liberty University (2010-2013) ... His cousin, Tyler Thornton, played basketball at Duke University (2010-2014)... Another cousin, Marques Hagans, attended the University of Virginia (2002-2005) and was selected in the fifth round (144 overall) of the 2006 NFL Draft by the former St. Louis Rams (now, the Los Angeles Rams) ... Hagans spent three spent three seasons with the Rams before being picked up by the Kansas City Chiefs for the 2009 campaign and finished his career with the Washington Redskins... ”
Ulla, great little video clip. I love his shooting form. Very pure and clean technique with the lefty release. Our offense generates so many wide open shots, Blake is going to excel in our offense.

I wish we could plug him in this year.

Let's be positive here, when Mooney lands an athletic 6'9" 240lb grad transfers that averaged 12 pts and 8 rebounds last year, and a stud guard immediatley eligible also, we will be well above .500!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
First - this kid is not a grad transfer.

Second - my point in my post was pointing out we already assumed next season would be a reach for meaningful post-season. We only went about 6 deep this season in terms of rotation, and now with the lost of Fore - we only have 5 guys returning who played major minutes. Which means - we have to rely on multiple newcomers to come off the bench and provide our depth. And if they are typical frosh, even if they are good - they will be up and down at times and need time to adjust. So to think next season is an NIT or NCAA year is likely a stretch at best. We finished this season at 12-20 overall - we would need to flip that record to 20-12 to have a shot at the NIT and even better for NCAA. I just don't see it happening with our depleted roster and reliance on freshman.

So what happens if next season we finish with 15-17 wins - right around .500. Do we continue to say "next year is the year", or "wait till the transfer plays?" - or do we make a switch?

If CM has back to back losing seasons he is gone.
probably. and if he wins 28 games he'll get a raise.
weird to make projections based on projections. I think we'll do much better than 15 wins unless there's bad news between now and November.

Well 804 just dropped a bad news bomb on another thread.

Next year is going to be another real challenge (and that's before anything 804 is referring to).

We lose KF so the improvement from others (assuming it comes) has to first offset Kwhan loss just to get us back to 10-20 or whatever we ended up. And remember, when KF was out at the start of the year we were absolutely awful, awful, awful on defense and we got better (although still bad) only after he got back in the swing. And I don't know that improvement is guaranteed for anyone and certainly isn't guaranteed for everyone. We have seen some guys make the step up and some guys not, so only time will tell. But it's hard to imagine we see enough improvement to turn us into a post season contender as quick as next year.

Lets recall the mantra of many at the beginning of this year - - - the improvement in NS, DB, and KF and arrival of two freshman (and a transfer) who would be big contributors right away would be enough to make us as good (if not better) than the prior year and able to compete for a post season bid. Despite losing TJ and SDJ.

Well - - - we got some improvement; the freshman were in fact immediate contributors (and more); Solly didn't work out (and rarely will everything work out) and we ended up flat out bad last year. What's happening this year that's going to make us so much better?

And that's before whatever 804 refers to!! If that's another Top 6 guy leaving, add to the fact that takes away hhis actual physical contributions the fact that it will be a demoralizing series of events for whoever stays! If its a another player, 10-20 will be an accomplishment! In fact, if its player, the chances of anything that doesn't get Mooney fired are so slim, we should fire him immediately so we don't waste the year!

Even with Buck returning - we are behind the 8 ball next season. Even if Fore returned - we were going to be better, but I don't think we were NCAA tourney better or maybe we would have been lower seed NIT better.

But we lose Fore, we pick up a solid transfer who must sit out a year (doesn't do anything for us next year), so right now returning we are 5 deep and that includes Johnson - who was our 6th man last year. Our bench will be full of Frosh, which is great for the year after next - but means probably a lot of ups and downs and likely early season adjustment period during the OOC period.

Someone in the AD’s office, please start (or already have started) the process for a hardship waiver. He’s from VA, coming back closer to home. At least we can try the argument? Could definitely use him this year instead of next...

and here I was ... trying to figure out what we do when Francis is eligible 18 months from now. too good a shooter to come off the bench, I figured. but we don't want to go back to the small lineup with two tiny guards and Nick & Buck at forward.
guess we "solved" that problem. :(

LOL and by golly this year, we certainly deserve that waiver.
I'm in the camp right now of just put me out of misery quickly. I'm greatly saddened about the Buck situation but also feel that this maybe is the brick that brings the whole building down. And if that is the case, we will look back upon yesterday as the start of a new beginning.

We may have to wait another 11 months or so for demolition to be complete and for any rebuild to begin.

Agree. Let the program implode and start over. Mooney may have one more year to finish cratering but I don’t think so.

This is the only question left in my mind. Do we can him now OR do we suffer through another humiliating year and can him next March.

This is a sneaky good time to hire a good coach, I will say. Not many openings right now, we would be the best one.

Claiming “Hardship” to get back into college after declaring for the draft? Geez, the NCAA is a joke.

Nice interview by Bob. This kid will be a good bookend with Jacob for 2 years.

Nice interview? What did Blake say that impressed you? Looks like a ball player though, so I’m be more than happy to overlook the fact that maybe he’s just not a good public speaker.

I’m not sure of the relevance to the post you quoted but if we go 2-24 next year, you have to expect a ton of negative commentary. The commentary will continue to be directed at CM which is fair. I don’t see a ton of attacks on the players.

I guess you don't. I didn't say there were a ton of attacks on players....
