Throw another log on this fire. I'd guess that Dayton and VCU would be at the top of their list.

Depressing to think about how we have completely destroyed our chance to be on this list. Can you imagine us in the Big East and what that would do for our national exposure level? It's criminal that we accepted mediocrity for the past decade and did this to ourselves.

Meanwhile, VCU and Dayton have made multiple NCAA tourney, lost great coaches and hired similarly great coaches to replace them. And here we are in Year 12 of our rebuild, hoping this year will be different than previous 11. As Danny Rocco reminded us all on his way out, we have no vision for being anything better than what we are.

Freaking LI Spiders. You have come on here with the weakest woe is me , we are the little ol Spiders attitude. How can you expect us to make the NCAA more than every 10 years???? WEAK. Cmon dude, you seem to be either a troll from VCU (my guess), or a Mooney truther making a new user name. I agree, we do deserve an NCAA every 10 years. After 30 years and 40 mil in salary to Mooney we will have made the tourney as often as LaSalle. But keep on with the Jabba/PQ manifesto.

Whatever, nerd. I can’t follow this post in the slightest but I feel like you’re trying to be offensive. Don’t post on a message board when drinking. :)

And further more, I feel a #FHM movement gaining speed on the football board. It is amazing how much momentum we had following the back to back NCAAs , football success. The future of Richmond sports looked like it was about to take a step up. Moon, Hardt (and his predecessor) just strangled this thing. I do have optimism for this year. We shall see.

Are you forgetting the role of the previous AD and university president. They ran off Rocco and undercut Coach Mooney.

Or - alternatively - the A-10 has agreed that SLU will never have to play at Richmond again in basketball because Richmond let us down with contract tracing before our scheduled game against them and we didn't find out until after we made the trip to be there. In the future all A-10 basketball games against Richmond will be played in St. Louis.

It could be worse. You could be a VT football fan.

Yes, agree there werr some obstacles. Mooney and his buddy PQ waited 10 years to solve them. Rocco has not looked great at Delaware, went to final 4 last year but think that was a covid abberation. Mooney is still woefully behind the times utilizing transfers.

Being a VT football fan is not fun right now but we at least take athletics seriously and a change will be made this off-season. Can’t wait for Dave Clawson to be our next head coach.

That would be an awesome hire. I was at the game Saturday and it was dismal. 75% of the students left at halftime.

Ya I was too. I’m a season ticket holder and have been to every home game except the second one this year. Went to almost every home game as a student too and this past Saturday was the worst game I have attended in Lane Stadium. Things will get better though, I’m sure of that.

It's great atmosphere.

Why would Clawson leave one ACC school to go to another? Money- maybe. But I think Wake has some pretty deep pockets in their alumni.

There are many reasons why he would leave. To start he can’t really accomplish any more than he already has at wake because they don’t have the resources that the rest of the acc has. Another reason would be because Tech would be able to offer him more money and he actually makes a lot of sense as a guy for tech to hire overall. He has connections to VA, great in player development and he is drama free which is a stark contrast to some other candidates for the job (Hugh freeze). I think the biggest reason why Clawson might leave though is because he wants the challenge of coaching at a true power 5 school, Tech gives him that opportunity and at his age might be the last opportunity he gets to do that. Clawson is in my opinion the most underrated coach in the country and it’s time for him to come back to VA.

I think you’re selling Wake short. But, I also know you’re prejudice.
We’ll see.

I can’t imagine Clawson would leave Wake for Tech. I can see Clawson taking an SEC or Big 10 gig if/when those come calling. Although it wouldn’t shock me if he stays at awake a long time. He can be there for years, make great money and win a lot of games.

itll be interesting what Tech does. Seems they need to move in a new direction. They would probably thumb their nose down at Will Healy but he’d be the type of guy that could actually bring the recruits back to Tech. They have lost too many HS connections in Virginia.

Had a one on one with Dave after his time at UT, not sure he would go to Tech. He enjoys the student athlete environment. Who knows, Coaches at that level are driven by accomplishment and he may see Tech as both a challenge and an opportunity. If I were Tech I would certainly reach out to his agent. But I really like the Will Healy suggestion.

Tech has no money. They have a small recruiting budget compared to other large state schools. And there is some question if they will be able to pay JF the 7.5 to 10 million owed to him if he is fired. Clawson isn't going to a large public school. I could see him leaving Wake for Notre Dame.

Will healy would be a great fit for Tech. Most of our fans are thumbing their nose at hiring another G5 guy because of how Fuente has worked out but I like Healy, his recruiting and his energy he brings to his teams. Take the UR bias aside I think he would actually kill it at Tech. Dave Clawson seems to be the consensus on who Tech fans do want though, also hearing a lot of Hugh Freeze rumors but the AD at Tech wouldn’t have the balls to hire a guy like him. Give me Clawson or Healy all day though.

I can see Clawson at Tech. Spider B won't go to a larger public school? He was already at public BGSU. Yeah he would fit at a private too, problem is there r hardly any in FBS power conferences. If he moves public is where he'll go. Sure I'd love him at ND, Penn St., Michigan, Pitt those all fit but they r also very hard to get let alone whether available. Clawson is a great coach underappreciated nationally at least in the eyes of some media or fans b/c he's not an outfront personality or winning the press conference guy and Wake is also small & under the radar but he's well respected at the admin level. But VA Tech would be lot more familiar with him from his UR and ACC regional ties. And I wouldn't worry about intra league move, not unprecedented & it's still a good step up and again there just aren't a lot of jobs. I thought Clawson might have been in mix for Colorado last year, got a little bit of play, but east coast or rust belt fit best.

Fact is Clawson is not the young up & comer anymore, he's 54. If he's going to make a move it has to be soon. maybe he wants to stay at Wake, personally I think he would move somewhere. Big part of that is probably me looking fwd seeing him on bigger stage, but I think also some of the timing and factors above.

I think Dave learned a lot of things from his move to Tennessee and he'll be pretty discerning about where he goes next. And i do believe he has one more, big move left in him.

Not to knock 712 or any other Hokie friends - of which i have many - but i think there' s a pretty big difference between perception and reality of their football program.

Their big plus is a great fanbase that will travel to support their team. They have a few downsides, notably: high-expectations/shallow(er) pockets/average BCS facilities/not close to a metropolitan area.

I think a guy like Dave would remember his Tennessee experience and weigh the plusses and minuses of Tech and look elsewhere.

I'd like to see James Franklin leave PSU for USC and have Dave replace him in Happy Valley.

I like that Idea on both fronts. I think Franklin would be a great fit at USC - as opposed to several bad choices mentioned in the media. Would like to see Clawson have one last big time opportunity. Having a great year at Wake no doubt.

SLU's announcement is indeed about facilities, not conference affiliation...$20 million facility with hall of fame, dining/nutrition center, academic support, basketball ops, etc.

Mo 2.0 penn state & Mich were always the 2 biggest schools I thought Clawson could theoretically get. Good fits culturally. Would love to see but I’d still have to put in longshot category. Not that it should be a longshot, it should not, but unfortunately probably r. This year if he ends w only couple losses he might have the cache. Of course Harbaugh is doing well when I thought it would blow up this year. Franklin could easily move tho.

& obviously he’d take those jobs but the other thing to consider re: VA Tech is Clawson’s M.O. (2.0) has always been to take rebuild type jobs - Fordham Richmond Bgsu wake even TN. Like Beilein I think he’s drawn in a way to them. Whatever happens the iron might not ever be hotter given his age & where Wake could potentially finish.
