Beat W&M

Glad the team has a shot at a winning season in the game that represents the South's oldest rivalry......Playing at Walter J. Zable Stadium at Cary Field...................originally called "Mr. Cary's Field" because it was part of a farm owned by Archibald Cary. Have wondered what relationship there is, if any, to the Richmond family for which Cary Street was named?

This is one of the biggest games for the Indians in the last decade. They are on the bubble, and are listed as one of the last teams out. A victory over the Tribe would spoil their hopes of playoff glory.

This is a good summation of everything that is at stake, although this leaves out our meltdown in 2019.:

Beating Richmond to end the season and then reach the playoffs from the bubble has been a tall task.

In 2008, we lost in OT. Missed the playoffs and then watched Richmond and our current coach win the National Title.

In 2013, we had a shot to make the playoffs, but lost to a 6-6 Richmond team, 31-20.

In 2014, in a win or go home national game, the Spiders beat us 34-20.

In 2015, our last playoff appearance, the Spiders beat us twice, 20-9 to close the regular season and cost us the outright CAA title, and 48-13 in the 2nd round of the playoffs.

And even in 2009, one of the best Tribe teams ever, lost at Richmond 13-10, costing us the CAA title and probably a home game in the playoffs in the late rounds.

So that is 5 times in the last 15 years when we had a playoff quality team and they either damaged or crushed those hopes. Let's beat the Spiders with an inspired, disciplined effort Saturday and then see if it merits a playoff bid.

Other than the 41-3 drubbing of the Spiders in 2010, we haven't won a single meaningful game against them in 15 years. We only have 4 wins against them since 2005. 4-14 including the 2015 playoff loss. Time to change that trend Saturday!

This is a great recap of the giant wins we have had recently on The Reservation...

I had the good fortune to have seen every game the author mentions...there were some great Spiders heroes in these games at Cary Field...

two I can recall vividly Andrew Howard 2008 with game winning FG in OT and Seth Fisher with an electric long TD run...

looking forward to more good mojo on Saturday...bust up their hopes again!

don't forget to carry your best sun glasses...the Indians put the Spiders fans in the worst sun field at the stadium!

Go Spiders!

Sometimes the opposition says it best. This is my favorite from above:
"So that is 5 times in the last 15 years when we had a playoff quality team and they either damaged or crushed those hopes. ...."

Did we really call a timeout to allow WM to kick on onside kick as they were about to squib kick it?
Calling a TO after seeing how the opponent plans to onside kick is pretty common.

In reply to another poster, no, he did not snatch defeat out of the jaws of victory. I think we need to make a change, but give him credit for rallying a 2-5 team into a 6-5 team, once the starting QB got healthy again.

How did Joe Mancuso break his finger? At Tech, he was tackled while running the ball. IMHO, the tech player intentionally broke it in the pile after the tackle.

I was curious. I went back and checked. It looks like we last had the lead in the series in 1980. After our win in 1980, UR was ahead 45-44. It looks like we had the lead in 1962, 1972, 1973, 1974, 1976, 1978, and 1980. By 1997, the Tribe was leading the series 47-59, with 5 ties. Since 2001, they have won only 7 of 21 games.
