The all time series is tied. We have a chance to finally take the lead after about 50 years of chasing them. This game will define our season.

Gallipoli, would you say that the future of our series with the Indians is....

Bright?

We had a chance to take the lead in the series back in 2019 At home, an opportunity to finish that season at 6-6, and at least build some momentum for the next year. Huesman's group (who was more talented than W&M) did not show up for the game and looked completely uninterested ultimately allowing the game to go to overtime and a Tribe victory. I guess if we give Huesman and Mooney enough bites at the apple they will finally digest the darn thing....or the apple will just rot.

I hope we beat the Tribe, but if we go 3-8 and beat the Tribe (I don't think that will happen) the definition of our season is sour but ended on a good note.

I disagree. It will have been a good season to beat W&M. Defeating both JMU and the Tribe makes it a great season.

I certainly want to beat both of those teams every year. We have not been competitive with JMU in recent years, much less win, which is very discouraging. But if you are saying 1-10 is a good season, and 2-9 is a great season I will respectfully disagree.

UR has a 130+ year history playing W&M in football. That is a much more important time frame than one season. If i were the coach, i would have this team jacked-up and ready to play the tribal griffins.

If we are 0-10 for the year but up at halftime on the Tribal Griffins, it is an OK season. Full game victory is definitely a good season.

That's just the thing. We were faced with this exact same situation in the 2019 game that I posted about earlier in this Thread. I completely agree with you on the history and importance of the rivalry but we've seen this before and this Coach didn't have us jacked up and ready to play a less talented Grffin team.

I admittedly don't follow Football much, but every time, I listen to Russ after a loss he is throwing someone (sometimes himself) under the bus. Not sure where the players are at right now but after so many lost seasons and Russ's blame throwing after each ones of them, I wouldn't be shocked if a few of them play for themselves and for their teammates, rather than respond to some pregame accolades from their head coach. What I am saying is, I don't think Huesman is "jacking this team" up to play our rival in a relatively meaningless end of season game. I don't see that happening.

And I know Gallopoli is just being Gallopolli and trolling us here, but I think the vast majority of fans define a successful season as a playoff season. Beating your rival is a nice added bonus, but no one is happy going 4-7, 5-6, 6-5 and beating William and Mary. Plus in my mind, JMU is the rival, I want to beat. William and Mary is a struggling entity just like us, so two middling programs playing each other in a meaningless game, doesn't really get me going.

Playoffs should always be the goal. 24 teams make it each year now and we are in a power conference. This season has been a failure and an indictment on the coaching staff and administration regardless of how it finishes. No excuse for this playoff drought. No excuse to not have a competent backup QB ready to step in and take a playoff caliber roster to the playoffs. Cut bait and move on and hope the powers that be win the coaching lottery.

A win over W&M would make this a successful season. There is plenty of reason for optimism. Remember, they still have Mike London.

I'm tired of all the "if we beat W&M then it's a successful season" crap. I still remember what it felt like in Chattanooga.
You hit the nail on the head, Rick! I want to see us end strong but it still won't make the year satisfying to me! I did not like how we played in the first two games and it made me feel we were still in the same boat with Durden calling plays.

Would be nice to see us take the lead in the series. Had a few opportunities over the past few years would be nice to close the deal.

Bring on the Indians. This game will define the season. We have a surging Spider team and a Tribe team that will be desperate for a win.

William and Mary is due for a win. And we are due for a loss. That's the issue with this game.

We should be laser focused on NCAA playoffs in both sports. At this point nothing else should matter. For many of us here, time is not a bottomless commodity...
