Pressure or not, he stayed with it way too long. It was a really good D for a few years and then the other A10 coaches figured it out and were picking it apart, and Mooney had excuses around players not learning it, etc. Which is BS because this is not rocket science, or you are a bad teacher. Mooney does seem like he is now starting to adapt and adjust - finally.
Exactly. And, if that poster actually followed our program instead of just hating on it, he would have known this instead of again saying something wrong. And, in what world is 14-4, 2nd place A-10 middle of the pack?
It was one year. The rest of the league is improving and UR loses just about everyone after this year. UR will be very bad going forward after this year. I’m not convinced they will be as good this year either.

The billboard was the climax of fans, STH, donors and many other associated with our program demanding for 2-3 years that changes had to occur. The billboard just made more public what many had been clamouring for behind the scenes.
Mooney was well aware of this. He avoided the media often during this time, got super defensive when asked about it, Hardt had to go on record numerous times stating his expectations were higher than what the product was.
But having studied Mooney is his 15 plus year here, the man is a creature of habit and a creature of comfort. All of that chirping about him and his program both in public and private certainly had some type of impact.
I like most of 247 rankings but...
In 2017 we were ranked 5th because of Verbinskis not Cayo...
In 2016 we were ranked 6th with Golden, Sherod & Buckingham...
Just my personal opinion, but I don’t think the recruiting rankings of any website hold much merit after the 4 and 5 star guys. For example, I think Golden is a great player but I doubt 247 or other big recruiting sites really watched his tape from high school.
And NET 38 in the country. We had 7 exceptionally talented players last year, this year even deeper. I don't dismiss recruit rankings but I saw what we had with my own eyes. Next year we are picked by Jeff Goodman as #13 in the whole country! Has that ever happened at UR? No. And Goodman may have us higher than most but consensus is back end Top 25 or borderline preseason. And its all justified. Look if he wants to say Mooney still has a lot to prove I'd agree with him wholeheartedly. We need best season ever to come to fruition but this team has the goods.
But honestly it's just hard to take our reincarnated 712 Hokie seriously when he says he's go up to Blake Francis and tell him he's soft. LOL, sure bud. A guy like Blake Francis who busts his ass, and plays for supposedly a team he roots for, or used to root for as a kid. Blake if u see a dude about 5'6 on his tippy toes wearing a Hokie or Confederate flag shirt watch out.
I would like to add that I’m actually 5’9 and I do not own nor have I ever owned a confederate flag shirt. Blake is a good player who plays fearless but he’s undersized and a bit of a ball hog. I still think UR’s team is soft and that is because of their coach. One thing I say is I will always call it the way I see it. If UR goes out and has a great season this year than I can’t deny that. We will never know what would have happened if there was a postseason this past year so we can only speculate. I’m just of the opinion that it wouldn’t have been any different than any of the last 8 disappointing years, and I think this year will be a huge disappointment. But hey I could always be proven wrong, that’s why they play the games!
