One little nugget: it says Gilyard was called by some P5 coaches after a couple years asking if he wanted to transfer. Pretty sure that's a violation if the coaches themselves did it.

Yep, I think the coaches typically reach out to there people to reach out to his people (AAU coaches, etc). I was worried about a big conference p6 coming to scoop him.

Loved what was said about Burton:

Speaking of a versatile wing with size, Tyler Burton is a name fans should commit to memory. Though he averaged just 4.6 points as a freshman, the 6-7 Burton inspires gushing quotes such as these:

Mooney: “Tyler, I believe, will be one of the best players in the history of Richmond basketball.”

Gilyard: “He’s the future of this program.”

Jenkins: “You see him, and he just looks like a pro. He certainly could be playing in the ACC or the Big East.”

Though he shot just 26 percent on 3s as a freshman, Burton has shown off a much-improved outside game this summer.

I like that DJI is getting to practice against all these guys. Not a huge path to PT this year, but he should be in good shape the next year to step into a role.

if Burton's getting that kind of praise ... I really like Nathan but it's got to be an open competition for that starting spot.

Mooney did mention he wants to find more minutes for Nathan. To be honest, the article was very effusive in praise for all the players. I think Mooney said Nathan may be the best cutter we have ever had as well.

23 personal choice to cut & paste the whole article but I can tell you over on the football board that is done with regularity with JOC articles that are behind a firewall and nothing is said.

Anyway great national article. This team is ultra focused. I think Tyler extra minutes will come from what Woj had, but as far as returnees I think Gilyard, Francis & Sherod will have a little less due since we may have that luxury more games, and to keep them fresh. Nathan made a big jump imo last season and is a beast. At only 25 mins a game, I guess it's possible he could lose a couple to Tyler but I don't really see the drop from him.

As I've said before on this board re: Noah Goldberg but could apply to anyone. Whatever u think Spiders ceiling/goal/expectation is....DOUBLE it.

I have subscribed to the athletic for about 6 months and I will say that if anybody does forget to turn the subscription off, that it is well worth the monthly fee
