Around the A-10: 2024–25 Edition

Reminder Lunardi stinks. Had Texas & UNC as 3rd & 4th teams out. Had WVU with a bye.

Granted everyone missed on WVU. I think in every single bracket on the matrix.

Big brands of Texas and UNC win out. Of course UNC AD is committee chair but that had nothing to do with it…if u believe that…no nothing at all…they even put out Keith Gill to explain why not.

Keith Gill gets some crap on here but can anyone imagine John Hardt filling that role as vice chair and TV time. Hell no.

VCU a little under seeded too

BTW, what a crazy-looking bracket that is for the CBI...lol. They could only get 12 teams (and one has already pulled out) and it's not bracketed logically to feed first-round winners into quarterfinal games against bye teams.

Also, I see almost half the field is 240 or worse in the NET...we'd fit right in as a replacement for Riverside, and the event is run by Mooney's agent buddies at Gazelle. Pick up the phone!

Crown and CBI are completely separate....Crown is a heavy-hitter backed by Fox Sports, while CBI is a third-rate Gazelle Group event.

Mid major tournament
Surprising since they tried to make it a p5 tournament with the recent rule changes. Did they even ask the P5 schools if they wanted all those free bids? Haha! It is actually pretty embarrassing for the NCAA

I love this "Update: UC Riverside to Compete in the 2025 NIT." 🤣

Prior to UCR being selected for the NIT, it was announced earlier that the team would be competing in the 2025 Purple College Basketball Invitational Tournament (CBI), which the Highlanders were extremely excited about. However, UCR will officially compete in this year's 2025 NIT and face Santa Clara on Tuesday, March 18.

CBI is going to roll with 11 teams...tweeted out an updated bracket late night.

And apparently South Alabama got hosed by Riverside's late acceptance of the NIT invite? So much drama...

A-10 getting destroyed in the NIT so far...Kent State blew things open in the second half to take down Bona 75–56, while Arkansas State is looking like triple digits is a strong possibility, up 86–60 on SLU with 8 minutes still to play.

We’ll see how other A10 teams do in NIT, but right now shows why we have been relegated to a 1 bid conference kind of like Patriot League in football.

Home team Dayton playing in FAU's arena gets the 86–79 win, while Mason cruised past Samford, 86–69. St. Joe's didn't do quite as well, falling to UAB 69–65.

So the A-10 is currently 2–3 heading into the final first-round game tipping off in about 45 minutes...Loyola at San Jose State.

How did SJ State get a seed with a 15-20 record but Loyola didn't at 23-11? NIT becoming more like the CIT. Loyola wins by 3 but was up by double digits most of the second half.

They got the Mountain West exempt bid after Boise, UNLV, and Nevada all declined, and it comes with the right to host.
If Mountain West teams are like "nah we're good" to the NIT, is another indication that the NIT needs to go away. The A-10 getting 6 schools in the NIT is also another indication that the A-10 leadership is not keeping pace with the changes in college basketball. NIT is a shell of what it was and frankly it's former shell wasn't that great anyway.

Boise declined in order to participate in the CBC, Nevada was down to 8 healthy scholarship players, and UNLV had already fired Kruger.

We can disagree. The NIT is an outstanding tournament and it will remain supported by the NCAA. It is exciting to see our conference with great representation in the NIT. Again, we can disagree, but I enjoyed watching our teams play over the last couple of days. It fits a need. This year, the A-10 had a very strong out of conference showing. However, the P4 schools are pushing the A10s of the world out.

The enjoyment of watching our conference in the post season is what is fun about early March. I understand that you may not share that belief.

Loyola almost through the game away. Very ugly end to the game for them, they are lucky to have the win.

I wonder how much Fox will lose on the Crown Tournament? Will the winners be crowned, and have a covering like Burger King?

The 16-team tournament represents seven conferences and is hosted by Fox Sports. According to the Idaho Statesman, teams receive “$50,000 for reaching the semifinals, $100,000 for reaching the final and $300,000 for winning the tournament.”

But the P5 teams r going to collude to play in it!

sounds like 500K not 700. 2 teams get 50k. 1 team 100k. 1 team 300k.
