Are you watching the Ladies

Exicited about Spider Women’s Bball for the first time ever. Amazing what getting rid of that bum did for the squad!

Which guys? I think most of the criticism was directed at the hiring of a consultant first.
I know my partners would take issue with me paying a huge commission to a headhunter to hire a manager who's already worked for me somewhere else.

It's fine. Most of us have moved on, others continue to throw lame shade.

Nice revisionist history, that.

Maybe some of you guys should have waited until he coached a game before criticizing the AD for his hire. There was tone of criticism for Hardt "just settling for his Bucknell crony." Shoes on the other foot now.

There were also people happy with the hire

I recall initially thinking it was a lazy hire but after reading up on Roussel thinking it looked like a good hire. On the face of it though, it does look a little silly to hire a search firm to hire a guy you’ve hired previously.

See your point, but I don't know if he didn't use the search firm to simply give independent feedback about Roussel, or to assure himself there were no better candidates available. If they charged a minimal fee could have been a very smart move. I just like the hire.

I liked the hire and still do. Just thought it seemed a little odd. Maybe it was a genuine move to assure there weren’t better candidates. If he wins no one will care.

A, perfect point, think the AD has to do a search even if he has someone in mind. he could be criticized more, by his peers or bosses, for not hiring a firm than for retaining one. Wood is just having some fun with those who go after anything and everything and is pretty funny. not going after everyone, just those, well you know who you are.

The biggest criticism was that he wasted a whole year not dumping Shafer. I mean everyone and their mother knew Shafer was dead man walking. Pretentious big hat no cattle Hardt has ZERO real decision making ability. Gets the cursory job of hiring womens coaches I guess. Not fire, just hire. It's a retirement gig after all.

Why wait a year? If it's $ we don't have to spend it on Lunardi and the search firm. That would have been about what it cost to buyout Shafer. Even then any credible AD would have basically a full year to research and work on candidates. Because no way Shafer was coming back...again. Wtf was the AD doing for a year to not be as prepared as possible.

Perhaps it was all about appearances. Granted U of R is very big on that. Look at Hardt's fire himself. There was no search. But a big appearance of a search. It was a setup. Hardt does same thing with women bball. Screw the appearances. We're a private school, just make the hire u want & stop faking it. We're fortunate Hardt worked with Roussell. I hope Roussell kills it here, started out great tho long way to go, either way it won't change fact that the whole process was incredibly odd imo, with the biggest factor being a whole year behind than we should be with the womens program. Because nobody seemingly cares about womens sports at Richmond I guess they can more easily get away with it.

PS the women's team has earned accolades but this thread was taken in another direction & I responded to that part.
