IF we can pull this one off then we are a legitimate ranked team and I like us to only lose maybe 2 games the rest of the way.
They have four guys averaging double figures for points and a fifth at 9.2 points per game. They have one monstar averaging nearly 11 rebounds per game and another with 8 and another with 5. We have to try to match their physicality because that is their whole identity, we know what they are bringing we just have to be ready for it.
The number one team in the nation only beat these guys by 5 points, let's see where we stack up in the nationally ranked conversation. Cannot have any stretches of lackadaisical play like we saw against Wofford and UNI because WV will rip our spines out and play it like a xylophone

I don’t think we can match them physically. We just need to not get totally dominated on the boards and then do what we do better than they do what they do. Important for Burton and Grant to avoid foul trouble early. WVU is strange. How do you hang with Gonzaga the whole game but also need a late surge to beat Georgetown by 9 — a team that lost to Navy by 7? Weird.
I am starting to think that this year, road teams in generally might have a little edge. When you play on your home court, you’re used to a big boost from the crowd. Mentally, without that, I think it’s a problem for a lot of teams, especially the P6 teams. Let’s hope that is again the case Sunday. This is definitely a winnable game.

This is a game where it would be nice to get some more breaks for Gilly around the TV time outs. WVU is going to throw pressure at us all game.

bingo, that is why I said 'try to match' because unless we have found a way to clone Grant we are going to lose that battle no matter what but we can't let the losses there be so great that they neutralize the battles we should win,
WVU has added a game against North Texas tomorrow...does that help or hurt us? Less time to recover/prep for us, but less rust.

I don't like that, mostly because it increases the odds of a positive COVID test for WVU before our game.
I was thinking the same thing EL, hopefully those North Texas fellows (and WVA) are staying in and away from others this week.
As i was before the UK game, I am feeling pretty confident going in. Same concerns I had with Kentucky, size, athleticism, rebounding. I do think our guys will be fully awake and ready to play, and I think our execution and ability to negate there Press(virginia) will be big factors. We need Cayo, Golden, and Burton to stay on the court and out of foul trouble - really need these guys to all play as much minutes as possible.
I don't think our 3 point shooting has been that bad, but feel like we are due for a game in which both Gilly and Blake are on fire early and often.

Would be surprised if an exposure tomorrow yielded a positive test by Sunday.
The Texas version of COVID is much more virulent, so basically once North Texas steps off the bus, if anyone has COVID, they'll probably infect the entire WVU campus...

I am amped for this game. If we win it puts this program in a place it’s never been before. Let’s smash the glass slipper and make it known that we’re in the business of taking scalps.
WVU will be very physical. They will brutalize us every time down the court. I expect us to be battered. This will be like last year's game against St. Louis, only on steroids. That was when they jumped on Blake and broke his sternum.
I propose a pre-emptive bone-shattering effort against WVU, to counteract this likely brutality.
I think if they play man to man defense, we can play that well. If they play zone, they are long enough to push us out and force us into trying to hit long threes. Without Sherrod, that could work against us.
We played them pretty well in that tourney a few years back, didn't we? Can't recall the final score though.
WVU currently has 13 points against North Texas after 15 minutes and losing by 5 – despite having caused 12 turnovers and taken 12 more shots than UNT.

Yeah, we hung with them for a while, but had a hard time scoring and ultimately lost by 8. The loss is what gave us the opportunity to knock off #14 Cal, who had been upset by San Diego St.
This is another reason I wanted us to be their next game... Now they'll get this out of their system today, probably.
