Could be interesting A10 vs MW challenge. A10 would replace MVC.

Pretty stupid idea. Who cares about the MWC? Can we find a conference east of the rockies that wants to do this with us?
Like the Big South?

Unfortunately there aren’t a ton of conferences worthy of doing this with who aren’t already doing it. At least the MWC regularly has competitive teams.

FYI, not saying I adore the idea...

"with whom" T, for the record (not that it matters) I am also not for this.
Actually, if you’ll re-read this, “who” is used as the subject of the second part of a compound sentence. You only use “whom” when it’s an object.

Had I known I was being graded, I would have used “that” which would have been the proper word choice.

I’ll start sending my corrections your way.

I don't mind doing it with the MWC, it would be better than doing nothing. Teams like New Mexico, Wyoming, Boise St, SD State, Hawaii, etc. I'm good with playing every year for 1 game.

Yes, I think either of those would be good conferences to play. Nevada is getting attention as a top 10 team nationally possibly out of the the MW. I think the AAC is deep this year considering Wichita State is picked 8th in the league. If Uconn and Memphis bounce back with new coaches that will be a very deep league. I like this idea.

Plus the MWC one gives east regional teams exposure out west and vice versa. AAC would better competition but believe that conference would feel their taking a step down playing the A10.

I like this idea. Should give us another game that should be "higher profile". Kids will get to make a road trip out west once every two years. Give both leagues a little marketing shot in the arm. Yes, AAC would be better but if they don't want to dance with us, we need to find a willing partner and it looks like the MWC could be that partner. Bird in hand.

not saying some MW teams aren't good, but I don't see any high profile games or marketing shots in the arm here at all.

It depends a good bit on who we'd get matched up with. If you get UNLV or SDSU, that's probably exciting, but San Jose State or Air Force, not so much.

I think overall, you'd get some schedule lift if we were to replace one of the lower tier OOC games (JMU, Liberty, etc.) with one of these games.

Overall though, I don't know that it's a major lift without getting one of those decent to good programs.

The A10 is still waiting for those ACC doubleheader games for 3 years we were promised after letting the ACC take over Barclays.

Getting a chance to add a game against a UNLV, Nevada, New Mexico, Boise, Wyoming, Colorado State type of team should be a resume enhancing type of game. Certainly this would be an upgrade over probably 80% of the teams we are playing OOC this year.

As for the marketing shot in the arm, I was referencing the leagues getting a little marketing shot. They get to promote this multiple times, maybe get some additional TV games out of it. From an individual school standpoint though I agree, their probably is not that much of a marketing angle. But from an A-10 conference standpoint,I think there is.

Conferences outside of the power conferences have a hard time scheduling, its a good thing to band together. Would think that they would schedule to get the best games for the better teams in conference each year.

I suspect that the Mountain West Conference is likely to be more unhappy with the A-10 matchups. Some overlook how weak the A-10 has become in recent years.

Losing Xavier, Butler and Temple hurt big time.

Gaining VCU and Davidson helped.

I don’t count Butler cause they were there for a year, two at most?

When’s the last time temple was good? Or mediocre?

Losing Xavier cut real deep.

Does Conference USA have a matchup - I think that one would be best for A10. Both have 14 teams so everyone can play 1 game each year. Geography is not too far west. And they are very similar - with some top level teams and bottom feeders.

Conference USA blows. They are a 1 bid league now. We might as well schedule a match up with the CAA if we are going that route.

A10 last year had 3 teams win 20 games.

CUSA had 7 teams win 20 games.

They had 4 teams top 100 RPI, A10 had 3. I think the top of our league is stronger, and so is the bottom of the A10 is stronger than their bottom. But middle teams - like UR at this point - are about the same. And from a geography and fan standpoint - CUSA makes more sense.

Top 1-100/101-110 per Kenpom each season

2015 3/2
2016 2/1
2017 5/0
2018 4/2

CUSA
2014 4/1
2015 3/0
2016 0/3
2017 2/0
2018 3/2

A10
2014 8/1
2015 6/0
2016 7/1

it's one game. we'll get some middle of the road Mountain West team. it just doesn't matter.

It really doesn't make that much sense geography wise either. CUSA has 4 teams in Texas, several in Florida, also throw in Louisana, Mississippi, Alabama. There aren't any A-10 schools close to any of those teams. Either way you are hopping on a plane to go to these games.

I don’t think geography matters a ton, it’s one game. To sman’s point, we probably draw a middling team given our current state. Might still be better than what we get otherwise, kinda hard to tell.

KenPom has Nevada favored in every game this season.

Hope it happens. Similar rated conferences and exposure for Spiders out west. Maybe get a couple recruits out of it. Easy to take away one game each year from the list of weak opponents that usually occupy UR's OOC schedule.

If started this season these would be the matchups if scheduled accordingly from Kenpom power ratings .....

St Louis (68) Nevada (6)
Davidson (83) SD State (65)
Dayton (100) Fresno St (110)
St Bonny (103) Boise St (111)
St Joe's (104) N Mexico (128)
Rhode Is (108) Wyoming (145)
Richmond (115) UNLV (146)
G Mason (117) Utah St (170)
VCU (126) Colorado St (174)
UMass (142) Air Force (212)
Duquense (171) San Jose St (325)

Probably self explanatory, but in this list do Fordham and LaSalle just
not play?

Maybe we could try to get an away game at San Jose St. one year. It wouldn't be good for the resume, but I believe Wojcik is from around that area, would be nice for him.

Makes perfect sense to me. Trade one weak OOC opponent for them. Who knows what exposure UR b-ball gets from it but surely more than one additional home game at he RC.

Scheduling so current players can have a game close to their home is not something that competitive programs do. We seem to be all about doing things that are "nice" instead of doing things that make us nationally competitive.

And you couldn't possibly schedule an OOC for every single player, so if you do this "nice" gesture for Wojcik, what about the other 12 scholarship players. Do we find a Canadian team to play for Grace and Cayo?

97, of course Mooney couldn't do that for every player but the Bay area would be good for UR exposure. Wo's being from there is just an added sidebar. And Mooney can chip in for the plane fuel. :D

I like doing something nice when possible, and it doesn't hurt he program. most guys just naturally have games reasonably close to their homes so it's not that much of an effort.

we play the Bonnies already which covers Grace. I'm all for reaching out to the University of Vermont for Nathan. I'm sure we can find a good program in proximity to Kansas City for Jacob.
