2025 MLAX Schedule

15. The Spiders (5-2) handled UMBC this week as Max Marklinger put up six points in a 14-8 win. Losses to Maryland and Cornell are high quality, and the win over Virginia keeps an at-large bid within reach as they still get to play Georgetown and Duke.

Lucas Littlejohn and Aidan O’Neil are both playing well, while goalie Zach Vigue has been rock solid between the pipes in 2025. Richmond takes on the Blue Devils this weekend.

No. 8 Duke at No. 14 Richmond

Looking for an “upset” this weekend? We could see the Spiders move to 2-0 against the ACC this season as they welcome in Duke. The Blue Devils have been seemingly low-key this season. They have taken care of business and have a one-goal loss to Princeton as their only blemish. The big question on this game will come down to the ability of the Blue Devil defense to find enough stops and limit a potent Spider offense.

Richmond vs. Duke
Certainly a game that normally wouldn’t jump off the page, but there’s a lot at stake here for both teams. Duke currently sits with a 7-1 record but has not clearly established itself as a true contenderlike in years past. Richmond, with its 5-2 record, has no bad losses and has all the talent and coaching necessary to beat Duke. Home-field advantage is always nice for the Spiders and will certainly help. There’s something about this game that just feels right for Richmond and wrong for the Blue Devils. I could surely be wrong, and Duke could come out on top in a dominant win, which would then help solidify its contender status, but before the game is played, I really feel confident about Richmond pulling off the upset.

Spiders Offers & Alerts

Spiders trailing 6–4 early in the second half. We’re getting shots off here, but obviously gotta put some more in the net. Chenoy has won 9 of the 11 faceoffs he’s taken, but we can’t capitalize.

Edit: Finally got one back.

Spiders tied it up at 6, but then 3 unanswered by Duke to close the quarter. We do have a 30-second man-up to start the fourth, so let's see if we can take advantage.

Chenoy absolutely dominating at the X, and just went all the way to the cage to make it 10–9 Blue Devils. Duke timeout with 10 minutes to go.

Crunch time. Spiders tied it up at 10, Duke see-sawed back in front, and the Spiders just tied it up again after a frantic scramble in front of the cage. 4:23 left.

Edit: Spiders score...12–11! Littlejohn tearing things up in the fourth.

Edit 2: Spiders won the face-off again on a Duke violation, but couldn't put another shot home. Duke ball and they take a timeout with 1:15 to play.

Edit 3: Bah, Duke ties it up. 1:04 to go. Spiders win the face-off and take a timeout with 37.6 left.

Vigue with a couple of big saves, but the Spiders can't get good shots on their possessions and we head to a second OT.

Another missed opportunity for the Spiders...big scramble on the face-off and Duke comes away with it and runs straight down the field to put it home. 13–12 Blue Devil victory.

These losses are far too common now for me to be upset anymore. Others taking notice too. We had the ball with 37 seconds and our shot was a last second off target rushed attempt.

Really frustrating. Despite dominating most of the stats, we were playing from behind for much of the game, so it would have kinda felt like we'd stolen one if we could have come away with the win, but still...it was right there for taking.

Lacrosse is dominated by the so called "blue bloods" whose reputations help them in recruiting year after year. We are "oh so close" but have come up one goal short twice this year against that group. It is remarkable how well we have done ....and have to admire the drive of our players ....but tough not to dwell on the "what if"...........

Death, taxes, and men’s lacrosse losing heart breakers. I used to think it’s unlucky but now that it’s happened so many times, I realize that’s what separates the good from the great. Love this team. Love the fight and mentality that we won’t back down to anyone. The game was there for the taking and if we ever want to take the next step as a program, have to close out these games more often.
From our loss against Cornell. Sadly this is occurring way too often.

I'm not sweating it. We're a very good team and lost to a couple slightly better teams. If we play 20 games against those teams we're winning a good number of them.

We're a couple of goals or stops away from being 7 and 1 and probably ranked near the top 5. With that said, we continue to lose these games in the last possession or two while often leading. The coaching staff needs to take a hard look at why. Seems to me we go into let's not lose mode instead of let's step on their throats. It's becoming a pattern.
