2025 M&W Golf

Wow. What a heart breaking way to end. Such a great season for our men’s team otherwise. I feel for the guys not being able to bring the A10 trophy home.

Davidson scorers shot –7 over the final five holes while the Spiders were +3.

1. Davidson –10
2. Richmond –9
3. Dayton –2
4. VCU E
5. Loyola +11
6. Rhode Island +17
7. Mason +18
8. GW +19
9. Bona +33
10. Fordham +36
T–11. St. Joe's/La Salle +46

Dayton's Ben Cors wins the individual title by five strokes at –11. Spiders on the individual leaderboard:

2. Ekert –6
T–7. Baez –2
T–11. LaPiana –1
14. Isztwan E

Our #5 guy Polin was 48th at +14 and our sub Carlin didn't get on the course.

Hope Baez keeps his head held high. He had a wonderful tournament and great freshman season. A lot of pressure to be in that position. Don’t know if there was a choice or not, but probably best to have had Ekert be the guy finish out. Hindsight is 20/20. Regardless, a ton to be proud of and one hole doesn’t define the match. There were 269 other holes played by our guys this tournament. Kudos to Davidson, who have certainly cemented themselves as the gold standard of A10 MGolf with 5 championships since joining the A10, for finishing out strong.

Yeah, Baez and Ekert were both at –4 through two rounds, so I don't know how it was determined which of them would be in the final group. I assume there's a specified tiebreaker for that and that we didn't just get to choose who played in which group.

Totally forgot that women's regionals were getting underway yesterday. The Spiders got off to a rough start, sitting in 12th at +29 and 9 strokes back of Radford after day one. Caroline Thompson was the top Spider at +4, good for 41st.

The Spiders tee off for day two at 8:55.

Shame on me for failing to update the Spiders' final finish earlier this week. They shot their best round of the tournament while Radford struggled in theirs, allowing the Spiders to move up to 11th.

Lydic shot even-par on the final day (tied for 6th best round of the day) to finish at +10 for the tournament, good for 30th overall.

The Spider men are out in Arizona participating in the National Golf Invitational, which is trying to brand itself as an NIT for golf. They played in it last year as well.

They shot +1 in the first round today to sit in a tie for 6th out of 10 teams with a couple of teams still finishing up their rounds. Utah State, Ohio State, and Stetson have jumped out in a front group at –11 to –9, and then everybody else is clustered between –2 and +2. Conference mates Mason and Rhody are also playing in this.

Baez shot 5-under and is in a three-way tie for third, two shots back of the leader.

I guess this explains why the OSU golf coach wasn't at our weekly lunch today.

Spiders were a few strokes under par for much of the day, but ended up at +1 to push their total so far to +2. They remain in a tie for 6th, the only team that didn’t move up or down today.

Baez was –3 on the day to move to –8 overall. He sits in third, just one stroke behind the co-leaders.

The remarkably consistent Spiders shot +1 for the third straight day to finish at +3. Currently still sitting in 6th with a few teams ahead of them still finishing up.

Baez shot a –4 and is currently tied for the lead at –12 with a Utah State player who still has six holes to go. The pair is four strokes clear third place, so somebody would have to do something awfully special down the stretch for Baez not to finish in the top two.

Amazing consistency. We could take 5th if WVU implodes on the final holes.

Beavers having a good tournament. Told my friend to bring me some UR golf swag.

Karg from Utah State got to –14, but bogeyed 17 and 18 to drop back into a tie with Baez. I assume there’s a playoff for the individual title (though Baez has been sitting for quite a while now) and the winner gets a spot in the Southeastern Amateur.

Just let both of them get the exemption. It's not a pro tournament. They can easily accommodate another player.
