Spiders lose to Ball State in Match play championship game in tiebreaks. Ball State has someone named Happy Gilmore on their roster. He was destined to be a golfer!

Men’s team still leading first after the second round at -20.

Women’s team tied for 5th at Rivertowne Invitational. Although one golfer score not reported so our score is likely higher than what is recorded right now.

Spiders in 3rd, 13 strokes off the lead after day 1 of the inaugural A10 women’s golf tournament. Wonder how much nerves played a role with Spiders overwhelming preseason favorite and 2 freshmen playing in their first conference tournament as well. Hopefully we can cut the deficit tomorrow to within 5 strokes for the last day on Saturday.

Well we got it within 5 and move up in 2nd. Loyola is in first at +40, Spiders in second at +45, and Dayton in 3rd at +47. Should be an exciting finish tomorrow.

Lydic shot –1 today for the only round below par so far in the tournament. Unfortunately she was +9 yesterday, so she's currently in a three-way tie for 2nd, four strokes behind the leader out of Loyola. Wilkie is in 5th and Beasley is tied for 7th.

Spiders win! Shot a +12 in the final round headed by Lydic who shot even par and had the best overall individual score of the tournament +8. Spiders total score was +57. Dayton finished 2nd at +65 and Loyolas 3rd at +78. Congrats ladies on winning the inaugural A10 women’s golf championship!

I believe that should earn the Spiders a trip to a regional in first round of NCAA. Not positive but I know when they won conference tournament a few years back they went to regional.

Oof, the Spider men seemed to cruising in the first round, sitting at –5 for quite a while and up by 2 or 3 strokes with a handful of holes left, but they faded badly in the final few holes and finished at +1 and currently in 5th place with Davidson leading at –4. Most teams are still out on the course finishing up.

Baez is currently atop the individual leaderboard at –4, with Ekert tied for 4th at –2. The trouble is further back with Piana shooting +4 on the front nine (Spiders started on the back nine) and Polin with a triple bogey on 9 to end his round and push him out of scoring position.

Not the best finish, but right where we want to be which is within striking distance. Right now only 5 strokes back from the leader with 2 days left. Goal tomorrow is to get within 3 strokes of the lead or even take the lead. We’re still in contention with a bunch of other teams so hopefully that helps alleviate some pressure of being at the top.

1st is right where I want to be. ;)

GW stumbled right at the end, so we've moved up to 4th. None of the other teams behind are likely to close the gaps in their remaining holes today.

Davidson still has a couple guys out finishing up on the back nine, so we'll see if the 5-stroke deficit for the Spiders holds.

LaPiana is the only Spider underway so far early this morning and birdied his first two holes to slice Davidson’s lead in half already.

Spiders have cooled off and are sitting in third at –1 overall, –2 on the day so far. Davidson putting the pressure on with an early –5 to move to –8 overall.

Individual leader Baez got off to a rough start with a pair of bogeys, but got one back at the 5th so he's currently in a 3-way tie for the lead at –3. Ekert is just a stroke back.

Spiders are surging again, littering birdies and even an eagle over the last few holes. They sit firmly in second at –7, eight strokes ahead of URI and just two back of Davidson. Spiders are a few holes ahead of most of the Davidson guys though, so the Wildcats have more opportunities to pick up strokes through the remainder of the day.

Isztwan is having a great round at –5 so far to move into a tie for third with Ekert and a few others. LaPiana also finished strong with –4 on the day. Baez is +2 on the day and has slipped to a tie for 8th, so he's not even contributing to today's team score.

Baez with an eagle on 15 to get back to even on the day and into the team score, pushing the Spiders into a tie for the lead at –9! Baez is also now back into a three-way tie for the overall individual lead at –4. Ekert and Isztwan a stroke back in a five-way tie for fourth.

Spiders are in the clubhouse and in the lead at –10 overall, two strokes ahead of Davidson which is imploding a bit with five bogeys over the final three holes from their two scoring guys who have completed their rounds. Two more Wildcats still finishing up.

Dayton is finishing strong to move guys into first and second on the individual leaderboard (still a few holes left for both of them), and we've got Baez and Ekert as part of a four-way tie for third at –4 with Isztwan another stroke back.

Wow, Davidson truly imploded over those final three holes, shooting +8 as a team. Spiders with a 5-stroke lead heading to the final day!

1. Richmond –10
2. Davidson –5
3. Dayton –3

Everybody else is at least +3.

I wonder if there was a weather element or something that factored into it because the Davidson team played a great front nine. We started in the earlier section today and finished in the first grouping. Still, have to play with confidence tomorrow! Spiders will be grouped with Davidson (5 strokes back) and Dayton (7 strokes back) so it’s anyone’s tournament.

Spiders tee off at 8:15 today in group with Davidson and Dayton. First 5 holes are going to be crucial for us to start off well. If either Davidson or Dayton starts off hot that puts the pressure on us. 5 stroke lead over 90 holes today (5 players x 18 holes. Although top 4 scores is counted) isn’t a lot.

Davidson indeed started out hot at –4 so far (except for a bogeyed each of the first three and isn't currently counting toward today's team score) and have cut the Spider lead to two strokes.

Piana eagled the first for the Spiders, but Isztwan bogeyed it to leave the Spiders at –1 early in the day. Otherwise all pars from our scorers. Polin quadruple bogeyed the third to put himself out of today's scoring for now, but he's been our #5 guy the whole time anyway.

Spiders are currently at –11 overall with a four-stroke lead over Davidson. Many of the guys from the top three teams are now done with the front nine. Need an update from the final grouping as their scores are still only updated through hole #3.

Edit: Got a score update and the Spider lead over Davidson has dipped to three strokes. Dayton is now 13 strokes back and +6 on the day after two of their scoring guys had double and triple bogey on #9.

Couple of bogeys from Davidson on #9 and the Spider lead is up to six strokes. Everybody onto the back nine now. Spiders are only even on the day, but it's been enough as the only two teams under par so far today are GW and Bona at –5 but they're both out of the running in 4th and 9th overall.

The four scoring Spiders are currently third, fourth, and tied for eighth on the individual leaderboard.

Edit: Good news continues! LaPiana birdies #10 and a Davidson player bogeys #11, pushing the Spider lead to eight.

The Spiders have all finished 12 holes and are at –12 with a nine-stroke lead over Davidson. VCU is making a late run and has pushed past Dayton for third but they're still 13 strokes back of the Spiders and the Rams only have three holes left.

Into the final set of three holes and Davidson is putting on the pressure, trimming the Spider lead to four strokes. Three of the four Wildcats had birdies on #14, and they also got an eagle on #15.

Edit: And Davidson gets a birdie on #18 to cut the Spider lead to three. Nine total holes left to be scored for the Spiders (3 players x 3 holes) and six holes for Davidson (2 players x 3 holes).

Edit 2: Another birdie for Davidson and it's down to a two-stroke Spider lead. Seven scoring holes left for UR and four for Dayton.

Edit 3 : Birdie from Ekert on #17 pushes the Spider lead back to three!

Edit 4: Ugh, #16 results in a bogey from Baez and a Davidson birdie, and it's a one-stroke Spider lead. Four Spider holes and three Davidson holes still to go.

Here we go...just Ekert and Baez plus one Davidson player with #18 to play and still a one-stroke Spider lead.

Edit: Ekert pars, so it's down to UR's Baez vs Davidson's Faulkner.

Yep. Spiders with one stroke lead in the final hole. Have to match or do better with whatever Davidson shoots on the 18th

Ughhhhhh...Baez double bogeys #18 and Davidson wins by a stroke. Lot of pressure for a freshman.
