don't look now, but the former Fighting Christians are the Spiders final regular season home game...there's a very realistic chance that we could be undefeated, 4-0 CAA, 6-0 Overall, at home, if we can defeat the Phoenix...I'm not sure when we last went undefeated at home on the season...

preseason projections and expectations don't mean too much, but Elon will very likely be the best team we face at The Brick House this season...the Phoenix have been very comfortable at The Brick House ever since they almost spoiled the opening day party in 2010...more recently they've won three of the last four on our turf...and then there was last year's loss down there!...we owe them!

both teams will be breaking in new QB's...it'll be interesting to see which one has come the furthest since September...the Spiders could have an advantage on the defensive side of the ball...the Phoenix return only four defensive starters...

If you're going to win a Championship and earn a Playoff bid you probably have to be playing your best football in November...I expect the Spiders to be in the battle...that makes winning this game a must, and a perfect warm up for the grand finale' on The Reservation...

enjoy the Countdown...it's almost over!

Go Spiders!

I will be rooting big-time for Elon and WM Saturday. Love that Elon had a week off to prepare for Deleware. A Tribe win eliminates Albany and helps their resume leading to our season finale.

Quarterback Matthew Downing passed for 352 yards and three touchdowns as Elon (5-4, 5-1 CAA) knocked off 5th-ranked Delaware (7-2, 5-1 CAA), ending the Blue Hens’ six-game winning streak. Chandler Brayboy made three receptions for 121 yards and a TD and Johncarlos Miller II added five catches for 101 yards and a TD for the Phoenix, while their defense came up with three turnovers. Freshman Jack Berkowitz added four field goals for Elon.

Delaware led 7-3 early on a 39-yard Joshua Youngblood scoring reception, but Downing connected on TD passes of 65 yards to Brayboy, 70 yards to Miller and 29 yards to Jordan Bonner to take a 27-13 advantage early in the third quarter. Field goals of 37 and 44 yards from Berkowitz put Elon ahead by 13 in the fourth quarter, but the Blue Hens pulled within 33-27 on Ryan O’Connor’s 4-yard scoring run with 3:27 left. Delaware forced a 3-and-out and drove to the Elon 16-yard line, but a fumble recovered by Elon’s Marco Patierno sealed the victory. O’Connor passed for 315 yards, with Youngblood making seven catches for 121 yards. Caleb Curtain had nine stops for the Elon defense and Jackson Taylor made 13 tackles and 2.0 TFL’s for the Blue Hens.

Nick DeGennaro is nice snag for Spiders, on second effort

“…Receiver Jasiah Williams, a redshirt junior from Thomas Dale High, on Saturday will return to game competition for the first time this season. Williams, who made 82 receptions for 609 yards and four touchdowns last season, suffered a knee injury during spring ball.

“We’ll sprinkle him in,” said Huesman, who projected Williams being involved in 20 to 25 plays...”

CAA: Elon (5-4, 5-1) at Richmond (6-3, 5-1)

Kickoff: 2 p.m. (FloFootball)

Notable: These are two of five teams tied for first place in the CAA (also UAlbany, Delaware and Villanova). Elon enters off two consecutive wins, with QB Matthew Downing averaging over 20 yards per completion and passing for three TDs in each game. Richmond figures to dent the Phoenix defense on the ground, and wide receiver Nick DeGannaro (51 receptions) leads the CAA with eight TD catches. Linebacker Tristan Wheeler needs 11 tackles to reach 100+ for the fourth time. Elon won last year’s matchup 30-27 in two overtimes.

The Pick: Richmond

I have watched a fair amount of Elon football, I believe our lines are better than theirs. If I'm right that will be the difference, pressure on D protection on O. Let's go Spiders!

The three R's - Rested. Ready. Raring to go.

Expect to see sound fundamental football with a healthy mix of trick plays. Spids 31 - 20.

Lets get this done. Keep the dream alive.

Spiders rolling, headed to the half up 28–7!

Few shaky moments on O here and there, but a fake punt run for a first down by Trusler and then a personal foul tacking on more really seemed to spark the Spiders.

D has come up big and largely shut down the Phoenix with just the one TD drive. Big 4th down stop to prevent any damage from a Wickersham INT in there, and otherwise not a much threat by Elon.

Apparently our offense has gone into it's shell. Prescription for disaster.

Love Winston October as a coach. Smart, perceptive, fantastic motivator for his players.

Never been offensive play caller before this year. Flummoxed it early with Morgan State. Barring QB injuries before Hampton game where we were sorting out who could do what , when, believe he has done a stellar job as have his players.

One final step, Beat the Tribe. Cant believe you end up co or tri champions of CAA at 7-1 with 6 game win streak and left at the curb, Massey be damned.
