it's very subjective, but arguably this Spiders win over rival JMU might be the biggest UR win ever at The Brick House...the Dukes were probably over ranked at #2 in FCS, but they came in at 3-0 in the CAA...I don't think UR has ever played, or beaten, a #1 ranked FCS team at Robins Stadium...
the dramatic win marked the debut of Michael Strauss who was bound for a stellar Richmond career...it was also a signature win for new coach Danny Rocco who engineered the Spiders turnaround season in his first year at the helm...
the win was the first of four straight UR wins to finish the CAA season at 6-2, losing only to very tough ODU and New Hampshire...in one of the biggest robberies of the recent FCS era this team was left out of the 16 team FCS Playoffs...
the Richmond offense led by Strauss, Gaskins, Barnette, Finney and the entire OL were our brightest stars on this day...our defense held up at crucial times and just held on at the dramatic finish...
I hope this Spider Gang Game Day amateur video will bring back some pleasant memories of this giant Richmond win...
Let's all keep hoping for some real Spiders football in the spring.
Go Spiders!
