Until we are able to get more. Virginians into UR, the local fan base numbers will continue to decline due to the grim reaper factor.

That's pure hooey. It is fallacious to assume that Virginia students and/or grads from Virginia will stay in the Richmond area to go to games and those from outside of Virginia will not stay in the Richmond area and will not attend games. I would guess that you, Mr. FrontRoyalSpider, are probably living proof of this.

I agree with others that we are along with others fighting a trend, but I think that a larger and/or a more specific factor is that our games are now, for the most part, all accessible on TV (or by streaming) and that it is much easier for and appealing to many to watch the games in the comfort of their dens rather than drive to the game for viewing. I've been told this on more than occasion by friends/alums who I've invited to go to games with me.

There are more than 13,000 alumni in the Greater Richmond area. Add in their family and friends and the number is probably around 50,000 or more people who have a personal interest in UR. With these numbers and the fact that there are approximately 1.3 million people in the Richmond Metro Area, there is an ample pool of potential attendees to fill the stadium. We just need to produce more consistent results and better market our product.

Don’t waste your time with FRS.

He does nothing.Lives in the past.Distant past.

Ask him if he buys season tickets for football or basketball and how much annually he gives monetarily to UR.It all adds up to a BIG,FAT ZERO.

For years I have had season tickets and driven from Annapolis to Richmond and back on game day, but I have to admit now that I am in my seventies, it is kind of nice to watch the game from my couch. But, the Spider Club cab always depend on me to send money, and I have a brick at the stadium to prove it.

If we can win regularly and men’s basketball can win regularly, it’ll bring in casual fans to UR. We haven’t created much lately to get excited about. As Al Davis would have said, just win baby

While O do live outside of Richmond, I do attend some games, both football and basketball.

While I do not have season tickets, I give $$$ each year to UR. Therefore your claim I give zero is wrong.

I am a 1978 Richmond Alum and attended games regularly (football and basketball) when I lived in Richmond. Oh, for the record I was born and raised in Richmond until 2006 when I moved south (Rock Hill, SC). I would attend games even then. I haven't been able to make those games since I have had surgery this summer and scheduled to have one more in the very near future. I also contribute to the athletic scholarship fund. Like Annap, I make up by watching games on tv.

Add to that we have a huge support staff and their families to draw from, add to that students from the School for Continuing Studies and their families, there are plenty to draw from before you reach the casual sports fans.
