Selfish post...I bought tickets a few months back (pre-Omicron) to take my son to his first Spiders home game. Traveling a few hours and planning on staying overnight, etc. Any scoop on the chances the game is played on the 30th? I've been checking St. Joes twitter, etc. but no mention since they went on pause prior to their 12/22 game.

If anyone has heard any rumblings, please post. Thanks...and Go Spiders.

Without knowing their situation, I would think the odds got a lot better with the CDC announcement yesterday shortening quarantine time. If they have enough guys who are beyond the five day window, I'd think things are good to go.

But don't think they would be testing day of the game? And that could result in a lot of "gameday" changes?

Maybe not cancellation, but having certain players unavailable.

I sure hope the young man or lady in the hawk costume has been thoroughly tested for every possibly underlying condition, and overlaying ones too.

That is a great attention getter for St. Joe's with at least one arm flapping throughout the entire game. Often think of how sweat producing the whole exercise for the full scholarship student who takes on the responsibility. Must have some "back-up" waiting in the "wings" haha if anything happens to the primary arm flapper.

Curious, will the Hawk be asked/required to wear a mask under the costume?
Would think not as the Hawk is a member of the "team" in the sense of physical activity the entire game. Can you imagine how hot a mask would be under the Hawk head?

Now I am picturing a mascot with swabs replacing feathers...

The Holy cross they had before this was cancelled. That game was supposed by played 12/22. Now it's been a week. I thought the window was 2 weeks to make sure you don't have it? With varies tests I am sure the whole team has been tested many times. With Covid everyone again. It's like a coin-toss this game will happen.

May find something out this evening from what I was told.

Hard to believe that there are not 7 available scholarship players for all of those games. I suppose if the “majority” if the team tested positive then they should be good to go once the required isolation time has passed.

I feel like they probably told the players to stay home, game going to be cancelled. Let’s see what happens now that the policy has officially been revised.

saw on the news tonight covid hospitalizations in Richmond area --- 12/1 were 901, today 1966

This is not a good thing. I hope I'm wrong, but this seems like the start of things to come. Hopefully we won't see a redo of last season's cancellations...but. We obviously are victims of other teams' Covid cases not just our lack of. The last few weeks in the sports world has not been good.

Its almost like they should wait and have teams test on Monday, and those that pass and have enough - schedule a game for Wednesday. Then test again Thursday - those teams that pass testing - schedule a game for Saturday. Schedule games week by week with the teams that are available.

Yep, this thing has hit Chicken Little on steroids status now. The school administrators obviously want to shut the season down and will within a couple weeks. If they don’t let the fans in, who cares anyway. I have had scores of colds and I am still here.

These games will be so hard to predict because I don't think we will know who is available until gametime. And with the new CDC guidelines - if your vaccinated and exposed, they say to no longer quarantine, just wear a mask for 5-10 days - so does that mean we could have players get exposed, but just play in the next game wearing a mask?

I like the Spiders in this one, but I do think it will be closer than expected. I like Lange as a coach for St. Joes and think he had them trending in the right direction at the end of last year. COVID has really played havoc with recruiting and I am sure put them behind schedule - but last 4 games St. Joes has loss to Villanove, beat Penn, beat Temple, and loss to Bradley. They have not played in almost 2 weeks - so we should look to start fast and shock them a bit. But I doubt we do that.

Spiders win by 7 by making some late free throws.
