Xavier Goodall, a Henrico High School graduate, was projected as the University of Richmond’s top tailback heading into this season after leading the Spiders in rushing last year (452 yards in 11 games). He won’t play Saturday at Virginia because of a knee issue, UR coach Russ Huesman said Wednesday.
Huesman said the extent of the injury to Goodall's right knee will be determined “in the next week or so.”
Goodall participated in a seven-on-seven, red-zone drill late in training camp, caught a swing pass to the right, and injured his knee when he made a move near the goal line. He left the field on a cart. After that practice, Huesman said he was told by Richmond’s training staff that the injury was not serious. Since then, Goodall has been at UR practices, out of uniform but walking on the sideline.
Goodall, a 5-foot-11 190-pound junior, injured his right knee (torn ACL) halfway through the 2016 season and did not play again until 2017.
The last time Richmond and Virginia met, in the 2016 opener for both programs, the visiting Spiders won 37-20. Tailback Gordon Collins, now a 234-pound senior, rushed for 114 yards on 13 carries. He and 215-pound junior Deontez Thompson are listed as co-starters for Saturday. Collins gained 242 rushing yards last season in 11 games and Thompson had 197 yards in seven games.

This sounds like there is swelling and the extent of injury has not been determined. It does not read like a short term remedial issue.
