Where does the program go from here?

The offense will never work against an athletic, aggressive team like that. VCU, with lesser athletes, but similar defensive intensity, regularly disrupts it in similar ways.

Why should we care about a program that seems content to not compete at the highest level?

A guy literally blew a kiss goodbye at the UR bench after yet another monster dunk, with the game well out of reach still in the first half.

Today should be - but won't be - an eye opening experience to any program supporter. Taunted, dunked-upon and utterly outclassed in every facet by which you can measure a basketball program.

Also perhaps the toughest game in Richmond’s history. Home court of what is probably the #1 team in the country. There is no harder game you could play. Not really an excuse for the performance though.

Every chance we’ve had to capitalize on a great season, we’ve done the opposite. That’s the most frustrating and disappointing thing. I guess you could say we did in 2011 but it was basically the same team from the year before, and our recruiting after those two appearances got us nothing. After 2022, we were no good. We made a great signing in Jordan King last year and he basically won the regular season for us. And obviously we did nothing to capitalize on that.

EL. Agree, never can capitalize on the success we have. So frustrating. And now Mooney playing long game already, talking about the shift in recruiting and de-emphasis on the portal. WTF. Again he has proven to be very very slow to adapt. But now we are led to believe this coming 2 to 3 year swoon is the new normal. Un freaking believable.

I’m done. There are better ways of spending my time than watching them lose 90%+ of their remaining games. I’ll check back in this offseason. I can’t wait to hear how great our transfers and freshmen are again. “Oh, but look out for Tanner. He’s going to be a stud. I know I only watched his highlight reel and saw him in lay up lines, but trust me…” Many of us have been bitten too many times by that optimism.

Just read this morning’s Spider Morning Jolt. Mention of women’s win over Columbia, baseball, track and field, lacrosse. Absent was any mention of Auburn basketball game.
my check must not have cleared, I no longer get that.

And the answer to this question in my mind was yes this was the worst loss in the Mooney era. Sure, we lost plenty of games we should have won against inferior opponents, blown plenty of leads late, lost heartbreakers and been blow out before.

But, I don't think I ever saw a Mooney team just flat not even belong on the same court as another team. We truly looked like a JV squad, a D2 squad out there against them. They laughed at us, mocked us, made fools of us and their was literally nothing we could do to stop it. This is probably the least talented squad, we have had since joining the A-10. And as others have pointed out, its not like we a young team, we are playing zero freshman, we are experienced team.

Just truly a low point for Spider fans, seeing their team on TV not even competing. Yeah, Mooney, you heard that, we did not compete yesterday. Even that stupid low bar you sent for us, we didn't do yesterday.

I should have been excited for a game with Auburn. kinda forgot about it. didn't check the score until 8:00 pm.
first non-FloSports game I've missed in years.

This was my point in one of my earlier post too. I would normally wake up like a kid on Christmas morning for a game like this. Even a team that started slow under Tarrant or Beilein I would have been excited to see if we could pull something off. But this game I tried to get on my phone on youtube TV while out doing some errands. And gave up after about 10 minutes it was so out of control just checked the score.
Just like the guy on here that goes to the football games and baseball games, but has checked out on Mooney. That is a big issue - just lack of belief and excitement.

Was this a tough game - of course it was? But given our current schedule - I think most people had us entering this game with 8-0 record or no worse than 6-2. The issue was we entered at 4-4, and then proceeded to get absolutely crushed by 40+ points. I have no issue with the loss, but the manner of the loss is concerning.

Even entering this game, I was hopeful this team would keep it close - maybe 12-15 point game most of the night, and maybe at the end it expands to 18-20 point loss. At least there - maybe there is something this team could have built on. Not sure what you can build from yesterday.

Nonetheless - I will try to stay positive. So here is my positive spin. Tough loss refocuses the players. I think we return home and beat Belmont in a tight game. Then we beat W&M easily, and go onto a 4 game winning streak entering A10 play. Similar to last season, this team finds it way and we start A10 4-0 (8 game win streak overall) before a tough game with the Bonnies on the road. I will stop there, but I think the ship will be turned around and it starts with Belmont.

Cant really argue with the Noyes transfer - redshirted here (which is a topic of discussion) - played sparingly for 2 years, and transferred to Belmont, which has a good tradition as a good mid-major program. But as of late - they have not made the tourney in the last 4-5 years.

Transfers there - he is playing 15 minutes a game for a team that is 8-2, around 120 in the NET and was picked middle of the pack in MVC. Belmont is clearly a team that will need to win their conference tourney to make the NCAA, but I would argue they are much better position to do so than UR is within the A10.

That is of course - until UR beats Belmont and goes on 8 game win streak. Then the tables will have turned.

Same for me. Spent years watching every game anyway I could and if I couldn't find a way to watch, would listen to the radio call. Always caught at least one game a year in person (don't live anywhere near Richmond). Have slowly stopped all of that as the apathy has grown.

Yesterday I just checked the score on the ESPN app sometime in the evening, shook my head and chuckled, and moved on with my life.

I nominate Gkiller to reach out to his petition buddy to stir things up.

PETITION GUY not petition buddy. Although buddy isn't bad, it's like when student17 said Big Hardt, No Cattle. My man only says something right when he's wrong. Sorry 17 j/k sort of. & like Brooklyn likes to say at U of R we need to go George Costanza. Whatever our instict is do the opposite.

btw I don't think Petition Guy has posted basically since then. Hopefully ok and busy with work or maybe lost interest and nothing worse. & he seemed like a fair and level headed guy besides that one time which I mainly blamed on getting emasculated by the UR admin.

I'd love to see the opposite theory be put into a trial period at UR. What better season than this one?

Giant Big Gulp cup on sidelines for Moon.
Moon coaching in an Adidas sweat suit.
Full court press 40 minutes of hell.
Just read and react and play basketball on offense. Abandon the same play that initiates every possession: bring the ball up and immediately make a pass to the right wing, then back to the jump ball circle, then a pass to the big flashing up.
Rebound like hell.

Sounds...almost fun, doesn't it?
