Wolves at the door?

I am not a sheep or wolf, just a sad spider alumni 79 and follower of UR sports for over 55 years. I am at a crossroads now of digging in and fighting or just riding off in the sunset 🕸🕷😩😡

I like the way UR79 replied. He, like the rest of us, know that change is needed, but
most of us (there are exceptions on this board) hate it.
I remember having to let an employee go because of budgetary reasons. I sat with her in
my office and I was the one doing the crying because she had done her job, but sales and
budgetary constraints, she could do nothing about, forced our hand.
Huesman is not a young man, and has made a good living. I’m sure he will stay on his feet.

Russ is an outstanding defensive coordinator, as he has already proven here. Worst case, he'll be making $150,000 next fall as a DC at our level if he wants to. Maybe much more than that at a bigger school.

I've already given up my basketball season tickets after being a season ticket holder since I was 9. I really don't want to do the same with football, but it became pretty clear to me a couple years ago that I cared more about Spider Basketball and Football winning than the administration does. I also left 3 voice mails with the SAF this spring and did not get a return call. So I no longer donate any $. That's just what Richmond Athletics is now. They don't really care about winning and they don't really care about alums and fans supporting the teams. Rocco was right. There is no vision for Spider Athletics.

Most likely due to Jabba being AD and a university pres who has no clue about having a winning/ championship seeking football program. Him coming from an Ivy League school tells us he most likely does not have much interest in a athletics.

I realize it would be a miracle if Hallock were any better for Athletics than our last handful of Presidents, but we should give the man a chance, at least.

You are correct. Let us see what he does concerning athletics.

This is a fairly ridiculous statement. Doesn’t care because he comes from the Ivy League? Go check out a Harvard Yale football game man.

New Prez seems to care about sports, he’s gone to a number of events already. That’s notably improved compared to the last two presidents.

Mr. Tbone- the fact that President Hallock is very proud of his high school’s state championship, and has already been out there with the team, it shows he has sports competitiveness in his veins as does his wife.
The negative yo-yo’s don’t know what they are talking about. They’re always negative and get a kick out obeing the losers they are.
They go by the theory, -shoot first and ask questions later.

I’m not sure an Ivy League pedigree is something to frown upon. Not like hiring a retired former D3 president at least. I’ve actually met someone who worked in athletics under Crutcher at his last school and had warned about athletics falling by the wayside under his leadership. We at least have a president that played sports which I don’t think we can say with the last 3.

Thanks! Go Spiders!

Along that line I have a good friend on the faculty works on a number of administration councils at UVA, strong supporter of both academics and athletics. When we announced Ayres I called him to get his insight, his exact words "good luck".

Another example of how short sighted UR admin is. How can you not see the value of athletics? It's a real shame.

And you know for sure the new president does not see the value of athletics? How about you give him more than four months on the job before making a blanket statement like that.

As far as the Ivys not caring about athletics, it would be nice to have football and basketball programs like Harvard's and a baseball program like Yale's.

Wood, I was commenting on Fan1's post. Guess I should have quoted him so you could understand that!

Yes, I agree, give the guy a chance. But this is rich coming from a person who whines about 32 being mean and personal.

Clearly the Ivy League doesn’t care that much about football at least because they refuse to participate in the FCS playoff.

Huesman knows he's gone. Just read the article in the paper today. Huesman refuses to play younger players and will not "build for the future". It's basically all about saving his ass now....which can't happen.

I’m tired of the mediocrity and the excuses. Head football coaches are paid huge salaries to win football games and to make the playoffs. When that isn’t happening, it’s time to move on. You’d think the powers that be would get this.

Wolves are gone after one win. What else is new around here.

Looks like at least a few hundred people showed up today

80 percent chance of winning. Until a turnover on downs. Awful play call. Towson 32 yard run on the next play.

Defense makes enough plays today. It’s very hard to lose when you score 2 TDs on defense.
