Non-conference play is over its time to predict the A-10. Consider that I see the most bids will be "3" from this league.

I ride with the Spids. Also Coach Mooney has some thoughts on the results of this poll...

I did not realize that Frampton left school. Another one of our targets that flamed out in the A10 anyway. For a time he we was looking like a big time scorer for Davidson.
I saw that, too. That would explain a bit of their under-performance so far. Didn't he tie Steph Curry's record against us last year?

Frampton
8-15 1/19/19 @DC
1-4 3/9/19 @UR

Last game 18 min 1-4 vs Wake in Charlotte 11/22/19

I think VCU narrowly beats out Dayton, then I think St. Louis surprises and gets 3rd, URI gets 4th and UR moves into 5th. Davidson is the disappointment - I think they have the ability to get into top 4 with Grady catching fire, but the loss of Frampton hurts. McKillop will really need to coach his you know what off to get them into the top 4.

Dayton has far more talent than anyone else in A-10. Even though Coach is a tad above mediocre, their talent will get the regular season crown.

Rhody, VCU, battle for 2nd & 3rd.

The one thing that stands out in that article is the lack of quality wins the entire conference has. There has been a lot of talk about how good the conference is this year but it looks like several records are inflated due to weak schedules (Spiders are exhibit A).

I think most teams have scheduled wisely. Looking at the top teams and their best wins.

Dayton - Georgia, VT, and St. Mary's.
VCU - LSU (Loss to Purdue and Tennessee for other potential big wins)
URI - Providence and Alabama
Duquesne - 10 wins, but no big names
UR - Wisconsin, Vandy, BC
St. Louis - BC, Kansas State, Belmont

What this has done I think is put them all in a good position in terms of computer rankings, but these will alter because some of these teams will need to fall off - we can't have a league where the 1st place team is 10-8. We still need top teams to clean up - top 2-3 to maximize bid potential.

Not that it’s rocket science, but my take away from listening to Joey Buckets at halftime last night is that his focus is to get games against middling Power Six schools, as that’s who teams like Richmond will be going against for at large bids. I personally agree with the strategy, and hopefully it works out for us!

Providence is awful. Kansas State is the worst team in the Big12. Vanderbilt and Alabama will be in the bottom 4 of the SEC. BC will be one of the worst 3 teams in the ACC. Belmont is a Quad 3 win for STL, you are really telling me that is a quality win? Duquense's OOC schedule is ranked 289th - awful. Outside of Dayton, the best win in conference is our win against Wisconsin with VCUs win against LSU close behind. The rest of the conference, zero quality wins.

Did Joey get interviewed by Bob Black at halftime of our broadcast? If so I hope you took a shower immediately after listening to two Philly guys.

Joey, Jabba, Moon Man, and Philly Bob all had lunch together on Thursday afternoon. Confirmed.

Joey did a good job getting us St. Joe's at home for our A10 opener.

Not such a good job for his other employer, though...

Not Bob Black. The third guy on the broadcast who does court side interviews. Not sure if his name.

Well, the A-10 is one of the top rated mid majors after out-of-conference play. So, maybe the ADs know a little more than you do.

If ulla were still around, he would chime in now to tell us how terrible the A-10 is and how much better the Big East is.

Well, right now Joey Brackets has zero A10 teams in as at large bids. Jerry Palm has only VCU as an at large and they are in a play in game. Busting Brackets also only has VCU as an at large as an 11 seed.

The A10 currently has 2 wins over teams projected to be in the tournament (other than lower conference projected automatic bids if there have been any) - Wisconsin and St. Mary's. So please tell me how the wins listed above are quality wins?

So maybe the ADs weren't that smart with their out of conference scheduling. It doesn't really matter where the conference is ranked overall if teams are not going to make the tournament, unless of course you think competing to make the tournament is enough and it's ok to fall short.

Besides our game, I think Davidson @ Duquesne and the Battle of VA State schools may be the first steps to clarifying where teams stand in the A-10.

You are way too worried about where these guys have teams listed right now. I wonder how many A - 10 teams they had in their bracket after out of conference play when we got six teams in a few years back. I doubt it was close to 6. Most mid-majors need to prove themselves out of conference and in conference before they show up on any brackets. You know this. Stop acting so surprised that A 10 teams aren't all over these brackets right now.

And, VCU beating LSU is certainly a solid win. That's at least three really good wins for our conference. Charleston is top 100 right now, and those type of wins will not be ignored by the committee. You keep saying what if some of these teams fall off? Well, what if teams like Charleston win their conference? You just need to wait and see how things play before being so critical of the conference. Do you really think no mid-majors will get at larges? If the A-10 has three quality wins out of conference, how many mid major conferences have more than that?

From what I've seen so far, URI and SLU are not as good as advertised. My current prediction is Dayton, VCU, Spiders, Duquesne as the top 4. Dayton and VCU will be the only two bids unless someone else upsets and wins the A10 tournament. Obviously very early in conference but URI and SLU do not look very good.

I thought today might be for the 3rd NCAA team.
Now I wonder if Senior night @ Duquesne might be...

Duquesne has zero shot at at large with their pathetic OOC schedule. My point was more that the A10 is not a very strong conference this year.

Most rankings have the A10 anywhere from 6-9 which is respectable. If your statement is predicated on the preseason top teams like Davidson or SLU underperforming it’s been made up by others like Duquesne and UR overperforming. It’s a bit hyperbolic to say it’s not a very strong conference.
