I am sure this is a stupid question, but who the heck is Ivan, and why can't we get someone to ask a real question?

Also seems Mooney is the only one to show up for the talk show. No Black (death in family) no players (sick)

Missed the radio show, anything relevant or was it pretty standard show. Did we have a really good practice today?

I listened during the segments discussing Women's lax and baseball. I didn't hear the basketball update.

UR is very lucky that ivan has not switched to vdu

Yes!!! Best practice ever, and everyone is healthy as a horse. Mooney picked UR as dark horse to win the tournament. Must have some HUGE surprises and changes in store.

Ivan may be on this board......we just don't know who yet.
Lol

I remember Ivan going back to the days of the Sports Babe (use to be Jim Romes slot) calling in and being hung up on when he asked why the steelers didn't kick a fg down 4 with 3 seconds left in the game....

That's great but why does he always have a reserved spot at the front of the line every single show while most fans never get to ask a question. Plus he says the same thing every week.

IMO, it's because he has become special to Bob Black for his continued loyalty over the years or that he always asks questions which lack the implication of any criticism of CM's coaching or decisions in a particular game. It may be a combination of both.

Listeners are requested to send in email questions to the show, but I have sent 4 or 5, worded politely, though I assume that they may have appeared critical because they were drawn upon the questions discussed on this board. None were answered or discussed, and I have never received an explanation as to why. I think I may now have been blocked.

I stopped listening to the show once the audio upload became tortuous to listen to because of the poor quality of the sound which because of the static made the broadcast almost inaudible.

While I appreciate Ivan's loyalty, I am not only unable to understand why he has a reserved spot at the front of the line, but also why Bob Black feels the need to avoid questions which may be perceived critical as long as they are not an attack on the coach or players and not charged with emotion.

I don't think you want the show to turn into an open season shooting of the coach, whether it's CM or anyone. What's to prevent a troll from calling in and submarining the thing week after week? That's not helpful to the show or image of the program.

This is not stated as a reason to excuse the staff from doing some critical analysis when things are headed the wrong way, nor a reason to deliberately avoid reasonable questions submitted by fans. But I do think they should (correctly) control their spin. At the end of the day, it's promotion for the program, and you don't attract a lot of interest by picking your warts for everyone to see.

Very good point. What would you suggest as the medium of obtaining an explanation of the questions of so many fans on this board without creating the negatives you point out?

Honestly, I'm not sure there is a good forum. It really would become a turkey shoot to do so, there is always going to be some keyboard-happy fan who's ready to obliterate a coach with his/her own disgruntlement over something. Just look at our own board, there are a lot of smart but irrational people here who are unwilling to consider a point of view other than their own. Do you try to win them over? I don't know that you can.

One option would be to do a weekly Q&A online. The coach gets to pick which questions he wants to answer and hopefully it gives people insight into what's going on. This makes big presumptions that a) people are going to be civil about the process and contribute well-considered questions and b) that the coach is going to provide thoughtful answers that don't sound like soundbytes but do try to rationally explain his logic. I don't know that I've seen examples of this, but I admittedly haven't looked.

It isn't going to happen, what coach or program in the country does anything close to that?

Not sure off the top of my head that any coaches or programs do this. Just hoping to find a way to understand the criticism of many on this board who, like yourself, make what appear to me to be excellent points, and find a way for CM to express his point of view/opinion/justification in his defense.
That said, do we really need a precedent? I don't see why we should. Is it going to happen? Maybe I'm being naive, but I hope so...or that we can find another way.

Sorta related is the following top 60 interview questions for a coach from BasketballCoach.com. Maybe someone like SpiderHoops32 who runs the Spider Hoops Blog could approach the AD or CM and request an interview with CM and pose some of these questions or others of this nature which answer the questions posed by knowledgeable fans like you and are not perceived as an attack on the coach. Seems like something like this with its obvious legitimacy should be something to which the AD and/or CM would be receptive if approached in the proper manner.

I don't know the answer. I am just looking for a solution to get the coaches point of view since I often feel that there may be the possibility of a sound explanation to many criticisms that we are overlooking, and a means by which we could give the coach an opportunity to defend himself and/or explain why he does some of the things he does.

have you guys lost your minds? what coach wants to go on any forum to listen to people whine about how they would do something about which most have no clue? if our coach wanted to do that THEN i would say he needed to be fired for stupidity.

Every coach's show in the country is pretty much the same format. These shows are avenues for the programs to promote themselves and they are always hosted by a very friendly play by play guy or athletic department employee and all the questions are pre-screened. Some coaches do seem to accept questions from a live audience and once in awhile there will be a critical question fielded...but a lot of times these moments are caught on a cell phone and end up on social media as "controversy" which all these programs avoid at all costs...rightfully so.

seriously. if I'm the coach and I have any say, am I going to choose get questioned relentlessly by a bunch of armchair coaches? uh, no. and why should I? because you want answers? lol.

i haven't lost my mind at all. iSpider asked a question which I answered. I didn't say it was a good idea or even one that has been used elsewhere, as noted in my post.

I think the bottomline is that we have a lot of fans on this board who seem to feel entitled to straight answers from the coach/staff on what's wrong and what's being done about it. I'm not one of those people, I have a very pragmatic view of what is going to be discussed openly, which is very little.

I do know the answer to that, because he ask pansy questions. Ivan ask "who will win the Super Bowl?" not "why isn't Pistol playing?"

I agree with your analysis but Ivan's loyalty to the show yes, to the spider?. I don't know if he is even a season ticket holder.

I've emailed in a question this season and it did get answered. So don't assume they're ignored.
