What’s reasonable and unreasonable to keep Coach Rocco?

Reasonable:

Top ten percent of pay for Coaching, assistants and head. I don’t mind it being partially results driven

If we are truly not paying for players summer school, and the others are that’s a must.

Unreasonable:

Indoor practice facility, We don’t play games indoors so would outdoor practice in inclimate weather be a good thing, for me yes it prepares us for what may happen game time. Plus out climate isn’t that severe.

10 year contract, never again.

Please add, subtract, or just comment

I'd also really like to something like an interview with President Crutcher for 5-10 desired recruits who maybe fall a little short on the academic standards. Let the Pres meet with them to see if he thinks they bring something (character, diversity, etc) to the university as a whole...and then allow 5 players in that way. probably will never happen but would give some leeway for a big time player who maybe doesnt have a great academic background

I don't think paying for Summer School is as important as I once thought it was, though it must be a surprise to recruits and parents that must be handled deftly during the recruiting process. The Bridge Program covers most recruits when they arrive on campus. At most, kids need to figure out how to pay for one, or maybe two years of summer school. Still a pain, but seemingly doable. By the time kids reach their junior and senior years many are doing paid internships or studying abroad for part of the summer. The study abroad program, I understand, is paid for by the scholarship ( except the plane ticket).
As big of a problem, if not bigger, is the equipment, weight room and locker room issue. How long has the program been promised new locker and weight room facilities? Eight years? Ten years? It's awful that kids say Richmond is the only school that doesn't show off it's locker room and weight rooms to kids on unofficial visits and Junior days. I watched a little of the JMU-NH game today and the production crew had shot some B roll video of JMU's weight and locker rooms and during slow times in the game action they would show video clips of the facilities as the announcers talked glowingly of all JMU has to offer it's players. I've never seen the UR weight room , but I have seen the locker room and compared to what I saw today it is pitiful. Not hard to see that Rocco feels he is swimming upstream with some of our facilities. And yes, UR has A LOT to offer over most other schools academically, but to an 18 year old (no matter how important academics are to him) things like gear, locker and weight facilities are critically important. I assume that with W and M's new field house their weight and locker rooms are top notch. It is honestly embarrassing that those facilities of our biggest rivals are so much better than what we have. Through this lens, it only makes the job Rocco has done all the more miraculous.

I'd love to see them close off the Robins Center end of Robins Stadium with a football facility including offices, weight room and locker room

The campaign doesn't seem to have been formally announced yet. There's been no publicity other than the brochure showing up on the Spider Club site a couple months ago. The thing was supposed to have a big public announcement like a year ago after a quiet phase, but nothing.

When they make renovations like this in the RC for better locker rooms and offices, I assume the spaces need to become larger. But where does the expanded space come from if they're not expanding the building? I know some space was freed up when the Weinstein Center opened and the student fitness center moved into there, but that space has been reused already.

How diverse is the student population if everyone has scored 1500 on their SATs and valedictorian of their HS class?
Ya I hope everyone realizes how hard it is to get a 1500 on the two part. Someone like me that that is a son of a prominent alumni and was a solid high school kid deserves a better chance than what I had.

Yep, I have kids about to apply to college. I would dearly love for at least one of them to attend our University.

Move the athletic director and the president into adjoining porta potties and use the space more wisely

I don't know when the elevate effort is going to be released but I've already seen the list of thing you can have put in your name on at Crenshaw field. And I understand bball seats are going to be shuffled in the next couple of years after the renovation. I don't know if that is all part of the entire elevate program or not.

We need to build a football center at the scoreboard end of the field and start construction tomorrow.

Where is the money coming from? Donations are down, and the big time donors have other priorities. Please don't say the endowment, because right now the interest on that is sustaining the University as ism

Change some priorities.

It seems to me that there should be a formal committee, made up of top athletic supporters of the
University, to approach every avenue legally (by NCAA by-laws) to raise money. Right now it appears that
athletic fund raising is lumped into the general fund raising efforts. A direct focus on asking for specific
projects like a locker room, or coaches offices, whatever; rather than a shot gun effort would bring
more tangible results.
Who puts out these stories about how we're going to upgrade Milhauser, or institute the Elevate plan, etc.
and then NOT be held accountable for seeing the projects through?

Where is anyone going to park with all these new additions? We need some fancy looking parking deck because it is already tight enough.

Wait a minute what is an endowment for, if not for sustaining the college during difficult times, which this really isn't. One of Crutcher's important jobs is fund raising, Heilman did an exceptional job raising money during the 70s and that was tough.

There are plans for several around campus but we have no money for them.

Rocco asked a simple question, "What is your vision for our football program". Just call JO and respond.

Wait now, son, in an earlier post you said you didn't even bother to apply.............

Whether Rocco is still the coach after this season or not, it would be great to get an answer to this question. The student athletes, season ticket holders and donors deserve an answer. pick up the damn phone, Keith.

Back of napkin calculations!
Let's see a $2.3 billion endowment or more
Start with a 10% return and adjust to the actual- up or down
At 10% + or - that is $230 mil a year
If you divide by the equivalent of 3800 + or - full time students in all schools that is approx. $60 k + or - per student

What is the money problem- All projects to date have been paid for. What more do we need as far as non athletic physical structures ? You could cut 10% of the administrative cost and you have more than enough for improvements.

I believe the perfect spot is along the side of Sarah Brunet, ample room for all that is needed, included some meeting area for alums

i suggest place a roof on the ROB and presto, an indoor facility which can then add the other amenities needed.

Perfect spot for what? A parking garage? I thought that the plans called for a parking garage where the tennis courts are now located on the hill above the stadium. Do we still use those courts?

Football offices, weight room dedicated for football (can be used by others) meeting rooms, locker rooms, etc

I thought I heard Sarah Brunet itself was being considered for potential athletic use, but I don't know if that was serious or just being bandied about by athletic folks with their eye on it.

Admissions and financial aid are now out of there and moved into the Queally Center, but I believe Sarah Brunet is now being used as swing space for the psychology department while Richmond Hall is under renovation.
