My heart goes out the the U of R basketball team and coaching staff for what they have had to endure during this season. We lost Sherod and Crabtree for the season and Gus and Wilson for part of the season. We have had 3 Covid required stoppages that are very difficult to recover from. It is absolutely crazy that these kids have to isolate in a hotel room and are not allowed to practice. We had St. Louis cancel on us, when we probably would have destroyed them. We also got screwed by the A-10 when they shorten the season and gave us a weak schedule. These are very difficult obstacles to overcome and we have very little chance of getting an at large bid to the NCAAs.

This team had the potential to be the best team in the school's history. Even after losing Sherod, we had the potential to be one of the top teams ever for U of R. So where does that leave us today? If we can avoid another Covid stoppage, we should get better every game as we fine tune our play. I am confident that we can beat anyone in the A 10 (it is too bad we don't get a regular season home game against VCU). The fact that they are not playing the A10 tournament on 4 straight days should help us. We should do well in the A10 tournament and have a chance of winning it all. It will be an exiting few weeks coming up.

With all that said, we are fortunate that most of us have been focus on basketball and not a covid related death or serious illness of a friend or love one, like so many of our fellow Americans have had to deal with.

Go Spiders!

Your heart goes out to our team? Most of us know one, two many that have died. Come on man, you are a Mooney apologist. It's crappy for all teams. STOP THE EXCUSES AND TELL YOUR FRIEND PAUL TO DO SOMETHING! please, pretty please?
spider23, you really need to find another hobby. Spider Basketball makes you angry, mean and depressed, which is no way to go through life. You should focus on something that make you happy.

Many posters on this board have lost someone close to them because of Covid. My thoughts and prayers go out to every single one of them. Posted that because the first post in this thread minimized how widespread the devastation of Covid has been.

Yes, living through COVID, I'm sure has sucked for our team, but literally every team has had to abide by the same rules. And no St. Louis didn't cancel on us. We effed up our COVID protocols, publicly shamed the league and another league members in the process, only to look like fools when we had to shut things down 2 days later and go into yet another COVID pause. And now, we are being punished by having the tournament taken away from the Robins Center for doing that. 'And now we have the chairwoman of the our league publicly ostracizing us, so lets not pretend the league is screwing us, we f*cked ourselves.

what were the details of us f'ing up our protocols? I either missed the details or forgot them already, which is entirely possible.

I'm not ready to call the whole season a dumpster fire yet. we're 12-5 and still on the bubble somehow. it doesn't look good but I'll hold out hope until it's over.

S-man. I think the Collegian article sums them up quite well. Give it a read if you haven't already.

I read. clearly what we did didn't work as so many players tested positive. but I still don't see what we did that was wrong based on the protocols. what am I missing?

Relative to expectations this is the most disappointing season in the history of UR basketball. Add that to the last 9 years and everything that has happened this year should be a fireable offense.

I get it. you want guys fired. I'm just saying we're in late February on the bubble with still a pretty reasonable chance to dance. I know I've watched much more disappointing seasons.

Glad I didn't respond to your ENTIRE post because it would have been negative about the excuses you had in it.

I'm going with the copied portion above when watching the Spiders the rest of the way. Sorry but had to cross out one part of it with knowing what I know now.

GO SPIDERS!

Just curious which ones relative to ability and expectations of the team? Don't get me wrong losing seasons that u know u realistically don't have any chance at at large or even going on a run in A10 tourney are not fun but frankly I agree with 712 VT. Fortunately the team still has a lot of say in how this season is judged. They have to carry the burden of failed leadership of Mooney and Hardt so props to them if they can. Need to find the fire that has been lacking and drop the ref bitching too, if I can make any suggestions.

Also I'm not sure how u define reasonable. We're probably only 25-30% chance at NCAA at best. That includes auto bid odds.

I expected this team would get a bid. I didn't necessarily believe we were a sure thing top 25 team even with everyone, but we were going to be good.

in those expectations I thought we had Sherod and Crabtree, and I thought Weir would push for time. so I guess worst case we're probably a couple losses worse than my adjusted expectations.

I don't remember what our expectations were in prior seasons, but I always defined a good season as one where we're in contention for an at-large late in the season. anything less isn't fun. we've had some seasons with no fun. this one isn't over yet.

Like your perspectives Sman, but it has been a decade since we danced. Competing or being in contention just does not remotely cut it anymore. Need to seize the brass ring this season.

These are kind sentiments in support of our glorious cause. Keep up the optimism. Things are looking good for the good guys.
