Video of huesman presser

Any good questions/answers?
ESPN 950 went back to the Burton Show after Coach's comments. Questions were being taken on the side.

First I've really listed to the local Richmond sports radio shows -- I live outside Philly and sports radio is sooooo different as pro sports rule up here.

Questions off to the side following the press conference were not broadcast, and the one-on-one was fluff...did you ever think you'd be back here (no, thought he'd stay at Chatty forever), what did you learn from the 2008 championship team that you took to Chatty and are bringing back here (close-knit family determined to win and truly believed they could win the championship), how is the FCS landscape changing (it's not really).

Yeah, the direct link from the main home page did not work for video, but if you clicked the audio link, then you could click a different video link from there that did work. Huesman seems genuinely thrilled to be back here. I am glad we have him.

Coach Huesman will be on "950" at 5:00 pm interviewed by the UD/VCU guy.

I thought they presented a good presser, pretty typical. Both Dr. Crutcher and Keith Gill introduced him with the usual fanfare. He spoke only briefly (10 minutes, maybe?) and did not take questions. It was announced by KG that he would go to a separate place to answer questions of the media. It was what one might expect. No revelations that I could see that might be of particular interest to anyone. Mostly praise for our program and reassurances that it would remain on track.

He did emphasize his happiness while at and coming back to Richmond as well as the relationships that he built while here as an assistant. He sounds like a sincere, straight-up guy intent on winning another National Championship and willing to work with the quality athlete that Richmond attracts with respect to both character and academic achievement. I think that the players will learn to respect him in a short span of time.

I found him more personal in his comments than Rocco might be. Not knocking Rocco, just a matter of style. Not as many cliches with RH. More of a real person. He seems to fit very well into the picture painted of him by Dave Clawson. I felt very comfortable with him as our coach and confident that he will do a very good job, and I liked his more personal approach to things.

presser video was fine for me. Huesman was great as expected. Rocco is very deliberate, Huesman has more of a Southern charm personality to him. Rocco didnt take questions at his press conference either, they always seem to take them off to the side. Wish they wouldn't as the Q&A are often the most enlightening parts but seems to be standard procedure everywhere. Hopefully UR will have video of the media interviews.

His interviews with the press off to the side were interesting. Said he has never met Rocco and has never spoken with him. So that eliminates that concern that some had prior to his hire. Said he will run the spread offense with a single back. He intends to have the QB run 8-10 times a game to keep the defense honest. Said as a defensive coach that is the type of offense that gives the defense the most trouble. Essentially having two backs in the backfield. Will keep some of the existing coaches on staff here if he can. Those that he knows personally or through the profession. That would seem to indicate Sparky is one of those coaches. Intends to bring 4 or 5 of his existing staff from Chatty. Said this job is one of the 10 bet in the country and that at least 100 existing head coaches would be interested in this job. Impressive guy and has grown into the head coaches role in the last 8 yrs.

Interesting. Some stated as fact that Rocco and Russ are good friends and that Rocco was going to poison the well.

Thanks 72. PhillySpider said multiple times on here Rocco & Huesman were friends and Huesman was sure to call Rocco about UR. I questioned that since they never worked together. Now you can still know people in the profession of course so hard to categorically dispute such statements. Life of a message board I guess.

Chop, you are correct and why we should not believe everything we read on here. will add, walking with DC one day on campus and asked him he would prefer having a larger pool academically from which to recruit and he said heck no, we can do great with our limitations and i have enough to do without having to babysit the team in the classroom. sounds miles away from DR's idea of our academic situation. Russ was at both w&m and UR for years and he knows what the deal is so don't see a similar prob as DR was having.

This is major change in offense scheme. I hope he reconsiders after seeing team. Spread offenses are used to compensate for smaller o-lines. Not an issue here. Also Lauretta is no spread qb and while I liked Johnson a lot he really is a passer first with a great arm.

FL we used fullback a lot in short yardage, but majority of time we ran with one back and from the gun.
Huesman did say he likes a lot of formations and motion. Also what he prefers and what he actually does remains to be seen.

I am not sure of the differences in what we might expect from the Huesman offense and I am going to start a new thread because I think it deserves a discussion apart from the others on this board. Please provide your thoughts on the new thread because many of us are not sure of some of the things you are suggesting that may be different under RH.
Thanks.

Watch some Wyoming video. One-back offense, QB with a big arm who runs 5-8 times a game.
