UR @ WVU

Love this pickup. And with 5 seniors out there the West Virginia defense that preys on forcing turnovers (They actually play defense not just foul like VCU) we should be able to navigate those full and half court traps easily. Especially with Grant’s passing ability

With this, we now have 7 non-conference games scheduled out of 9 allowed(unless I am missing one)
Should be gimme win:
Detroit Mercy
Hartford
Vandy(IK vandy is a sec school but let's be honest they are terrible)

Favored to win but tough matchup
UNI
Cincy

Tough wins
WVU
Kentucky

I think that of those 4 challenging games winning 3 would be excellent but 2 is more what I expect. I would love to get one terrible team for our first game as we have a tendency to perform terribly in those games. After that, I would like one more shot at a solid team(maybe gtown or VT as some options in the area). So far shaping up to be a very very strong OOC with according to Andy Katz 4 at large tourny teams already scheduled.

Have all of those games been reconfirmed since the new start date was announced and everything has had to be adjusted?

The only ones I think I’ve seen are UK and now WVU. Even Detroit and Hartford, Mooney said the other teams in the MTE could change, although Davis had indicated Detroit was still in.

Golden family should enjoy the drive if fans are allowed by then

Nice add. I haven’t seen confirmations on others either. Presumably we r trying to keep what we had previously. We know we’ve lost CSU and Bucknell. But ur-2005 leaves out Hofstra C of C and ODU on the list above, at least as games that were previously scheduled. Odu being local think is likely if they can get a new date - it was originally 11/18.

WVU replaces Cincy, Bob Black just said.

uh oh spider23 may have to regrade. Certainly a good game regardless but when it replaces another good game more winnable, not as much. The big hit is Cincy was a H & H, they were coming to Robins Center in 21-22. Unless the two schools push the series back a year which is very questionable that game is gone. I doubt WVU is H&H.

And here we go with news on our MTE at UK...Morehead State replaces Hartford. That's likely a downgrade for our SOS unless they can convince Faried to go back in time and get some eligibility. I do like the NCAA rematch for nostalgia purposes though. Obviously it's a great geographic fit for the event too.

Spotted this article from a couple weeks ago that says Jacobson thinks the UNI-UR game is indeed still on.

Jacobson says Associate Head Coach Kyle Green is working tirelessly, developing a scheduling. UNI is making progress and Jacobson thinks they have four games locked up, but obviously they are looking for more. Current games include one home game (unnamed opponent) and contests with Richmond, Marshall and New Mexico State.

Yeah my expectation is Morehead State will be a downgrade. Similar conferences. Hope just a negligible change & FWIW Bart Torvik has Hartford 261 and Morehead 293 but Hartford has much better chance to do well in their league imo.

West Virginia is #1 on Bart Torvik.

I think what you're going to see is a lot more regional match ups to cut down on as much air travel as possible. Hence the swap out of WVU for Cincy. And Kentucky adding a home state team in Morehead St to swap out with Hartford.

WVU is great pick-up. Too bad it was to replace Cincy which was also a very high profile game.

We did not swap Cincy for WVU because of distance. Cincinnati and their conference will be playing conference games earlier than normal so Cincy asked out. And, Morgantown is still 300 miles away from Richmond. If we are focused on closer schools, there are a heck of a lot of closer schools to us than WVU out there.

Apparently Davidson is doing well with their OOC...

Asheville is much closer than Maui...

That's a tremendous event for Davidson. And indirectly, for the A-10 as a whole. Would love to see is in something like that!!

Would we be allowed to play a non-conference game against VCU? I know it's too late for this now, but would have been cool to try to get a regional thing here. UR, VCU, Tech, UVA, NC State, Charleston, etc. Something like that.

We might still be able to get our own 8 team pod...
VMI, JMU, Longwood, Liberty, W&M, Hampton, NSU...
;)

Mooney/Gilyard/Golden press conference...JOC asked Mooney about scheduling. He said we have the three games in Kentucky, plus WVU confirmed. He said for Charleston, Northern Iowa, and Vandy, he "feels like we have a date" for each of those, but it's all about "avoiding the dominoes" as everybody tries to rework schedules. Presuming all of those work out, that leaves two more OOC games.

Agreed. If there's ever been a year when it made sense for UVA to play us, this is it for several reasons. Bennett speaks glowingly of Mooney -- how about backing it up with a game?

If covid limits the crowd size they cannot even use the size of our fan base affecting gate receipts

Mooney/Gilyard/Golden press conference

Had to laugh at the redshirt question and of course CM gave the softball answer, which is that everybody is redshirting this year. CM had quite the Cheshire Cat grin there too.

For all the folks who begrudged the need for a practice facility on that thread, hope you heard Gilly talk so enthusiastically about the added energy in the new facility. I think it should be rather obvious that a team needs more than 2 hoops for many aspects of a practice and the fact that RC had to be shared between the Men’s and Women’s team amplifies the need.

What was the tweet about SF? It's gone.

Also per JOC, Mooney said Hofstra, ODU, Bucknell and W&M are all still options for remaining games. All except W&M were publicly scheduled games before the shortened OOC. But Bucknell won't happen unless Patriot League changes their plans on not having OOC games.

Killer, I linked the JOC tweet you mention. Not sure why he deleted it. The tweet just mentioned Hofstra, Bucknell, and W&M and possibilities...ODU wasn't included.

Edit: That's why he deleted it...he re-did the tweet to add ODU mention.

Only 1 home game in OOC as of now. This is a smart play. Home court advantage will be largely neutralized by COVID, but teams still get extra credit on their resume for road wins.

Maybe. Who knows what the selection committee will do this year under special circumstances.
