UR Football Clarity for remainder of Spring

I know this is a made up season from the start but not playing your biggest rival and only playing 4 games really kind of makes it feel like an extended spring practice type of event. I guess if we go 4-0, we probably will get a playoff bid but man that will be the most asterisked postseason ever.

And those four games are against teams with a total of two wins among them: Elon over non-schollie Davidson and W&M over...Elon. That playoff asterisk would need to be in 80-point font size.

The purple(4-0,2-0) may need a couple of footnotes along with a big asterisk as well.

-Barely beat Elon 20-17 in a comeback win
-Beat mighty Morehead State(PFL) that has since loss to Davidson.
-Beat mighty Robert Morris(0-2).RMU was leading at half.
-Beat WM by same score as UR

JMU is ranked #1 in Stats poll.Please.

Agree Spider B. Every win builds confidence while getting game experience. Huesman has played a lot of guys and many have gained valuable experience as two of our better interior lineman have not even played a down in the Spring. Building depth and increasing competition for playing time will only make us better heading into the Fall.

Make the playoffs and there will be quality teams to play and beat. No asterisk necessary. Let’s beat W&M this weekend.

If we can get into the postseason only defeating two teams, look for men’s basketball to look for a 10 game set with both Fordham & LaSalle next year

Settipani and who is the other OL?

I think Cole broke a leg in first game of year. I do not know if that is included in the two mentioned above.

Ryan Coll.Add James Snavely.Add Jeremey Singleton.
He said, "two of our better interior linemen" haven't played a down this spring. Coll started at LG and broke his leg in 2nd qtr @ W&M. Snavely is a walk-on and Singleton is an unproven freshman. Just wondering who the other "better" interior lineman is that hasn't played.

I was referencing both lines when I said interior line. Settepani on O and Ritten on D-Line.

Yes, and I believe it would be the first time in over 30 years that UR would have the lead in the series. Spiders have won 13 of the last 17 to get back to even.

The FCS rankings are pretty much a crapshoot and/or joke however you want to look at them. Who the hell knows whether most of these teams should be ranked anywhere close to where they are. I doubt we are the 12th best team in the country, but if VMI is 6th, then we definitely are!

Another at-large team allocation opened up given MEAC AQ out.

10(AQ) + 6(At-Large)

IF and only if we beat WM(and not by a squeaker) do we get in-

Big Sky (2): Weber State, Eastern Washington (Also Considered: UC Davis, Idaho)
Big South (1): Monmouth (Also Considered: Kennesaw State)
CAA (3): James Madison, Delaware, Richmond (Also Considered: Villanova)
MVFC (3): NDSU, SDSU, North Dakota (Also Considered: Missouri State, SIU)
Northeast (1): Duquesne (Also Considered: Sacred Heart)
Ohio Valley (1): Jacksonville State (Also Considered: Murray State)
Patriot League (1): Bucknell (Also Considered: Holy Cross)
Pioneer League (1): Davidson
Southern (2): East Tennessee State, VMI
Southland (1): Sam Houston State (Also Considered: UIW, Nicholls State)

Proposed 16 team breakdown

”...Finally, Richmond slides into the field as the bracket goes back to six at-large bids. The Spiders could get the CAA’s AQ if they beat W&M this weekend, if JMU isn’t able to schedule another CAA opponent, and if Villanova beats Delaware on April 17....”

The poll I posted above came from the Any Given Saturday website. They are a crowd of fans that follow FCS closely week to week. The voters are fans from different teams scattered through out all the conferences and you have to have a pretty high number of post before you are allowed to vote, so they want the serious fans doing the voting.

Point is I trust their top 25 more than any other when it comes to FCS.

Just info.

AGS has always had a more realistic poll, I agree. I used to vote on it years ago but haven't been on the site much since we were last relevant. I just think it's pretty hard to evaluate teams adequately on three or four games. Let's face it, we're going to be 4-0 against two pretty bad teams. That tells us nothing.

No one at JMU complaining about their 4-0 record. They’ve played that same 2 CAA teams plus mighty Morehead State and Robert Morris. They sit at #1 in the polls.

It tells me something. It tells me that they’ll be a high seed in the playoffs and ranked in the Top 5 going into next Fall.

No complaining from the purple folk.

BTW. we ain’t 4-0 yet.Let’s see what happens in Williamsburg.I get the feeling you’ll be unhappy no matter whatever the outcome this Saturday.

AGS,a people’s blog of “unbiased experts” has no relevance to anything but it makes people feel good about their “deep” and “objective“ knowledge of FCS football. It’s a nice hobby,It’s basically a copycat of all other polls with a heavy dose of commentary coming from NDSU and UD voters/participants,

Just pointing out that us beating WM and Elon twice apiece probably doesn't equate to us being the 12th best team in the nation, like VMI beating the schlop they've beaten doesn't mean they're the sixth best. Now maybe both of us are actually that good, I'm just saying these polls don't have much value at this point because the "good" teams largely haven't played each other much.
