TJ to the G League

I guess Nancy isn't coming here. Knowing her son has left for the g league. Mooney gets his wish being here forever. I guess a 10 year extension for Mooney with all the benefits.

DC…Wizards affiliate. They play at ESA, site of our famous “getaway game” debacle against Radford a couple of seasons ago that could have ended up costing us a bid had NCAAs been held.

They were named after the go-go style of music that apparently was big in DC in the '70s. Richmonder Isaiah Todd is in the roster, along with Jordan Goodwin of SLU and Cassius Winston of Michigan State.

Going to the Go-Go game against the (Westchester) Knicks tomorrow at ESA and excited to hopefully see TJ and Blake on the floor!

Go-go's also still a huge musical influence in the DC metro area today, by the way. It's regularly played on local radio and come summer, it's what you'll hear at family barbecues basically everywhere in the city except NW.

Honestly Go-Gos would be a hell of a better mascot than the friggin Wizards. I still refer to them as the Bullets.

Agree. Tho most anything beats the wiz. Maybe they can relegate Wizards name to g league and swap. Poor Abe Pollin I think he had good intentions with the name change but he really overthought it. Like he was worried gang members would be wearing Bullets gear too much, it made little sense then or now imo. & honestly when they changed I don't know why u wouldn't go with the patriotic DC type name like other teams, even WTF is going to be the Commanders I'm pretty sure. I think they chose Wizards solely on alliteration.

I was convinced of the Commanders rumors, but then it seemed like they had been intentionally dropping hints to throw people off course. And the announcement coming on Groundhog Day seems logical for Redhogs. Of course, they can't get out of their own way, so it's probably more likely that they just unintentionally gave away the Commanders hints and embarrassed themselves like they always do. And I say that as a fan.

They're putting a potato logo on their helmet and staying with Redskins.

I did get a text from someone that only the WFT would choose Groundhog day to announce the new name. interesting I didn't make any connection to that choice & redhogs but yeah could be. When I first hear Commanders I actually first think of Commander Salamander in Georgetown but I think only locals of certain ages will get it.

Imagine all the airtime this would get between Mooney and Philly Bob if this were the Eagles.

Are you sure?

Was just checking in on our guys and saw that TJ has yet to make an appearance...has been inactive for a couple and didn't play in another. Hope he gets on the court soon.

On another note, Blake didn't play in Westchester's last game (against Capital City) and doesn't appear to be on their roster anymore. Can't find any official word about him being waived, but looks like that may be the case.

Commanders it is. They really did telegraph that one. These days it's hard to keep it in the bag. Though Cleveland did a better job of that.

Listening to sports radio this AM and caller had a really great observation. Basically said, fans hate the new name/logo, not because of the name/logo but because they have lost all faith in the leadership/ownership of WFT. It's because of everything they have done over the past 20 plus year, all of the ineptitude, losing, tone deafness to their own problems have just soured the fan base to the point where anything they do they are going to react negatively to it.

I often compare our situation to WFT, as so many of our fan base has lost faith in the leadership/direction of our program. Anything we do now, that might actually be a good idea, is akin to putting lipstick on a pig because it just feels like window dressing to cover up the institutional failings of the program.

And much like WFT who can't get rid of a terrible owner no matter what happens, we have Queally who lords over everything and nothing will change until either he is gone or allows professionals running his programs the authority to do their jobs effectively.

As a fan of both, you have nailed that, '97. Two programs that are clueless and cannot get out of their own way – and seemingly don't want to.

I don't hate the Commanders name, thanks to getting used to it the last few weeks after they botched the entire process, but the logo is straight trash that a second-grader could have suggested and they would have been better just keeping the WFT uniforms.

The Snyder-Queally comparison is incredibly on point.

And of course, they botched the renaming on so many levels. So, on point. for WFT.

never been a question on the offensive end. but can he defend in the NBA? that's all that matters.

TJ's (and Blake's, and ShawnDre's) G League season is done, having been eliminated in the playoffs, so he's headed back to Europe to play for MoraBanc Andorra in Liga ACB, the top Spanish pro league.

Looks like they've got about 8 games remaining in their season as they're trying to avoid relegation.

I followed his G League performance by checking the box scores each week. He looked to play really well all season and put up a good shooting percentage.

Andorra is a tiny (180 square miles) independent country in the Pyrenees Mountains, on the border between Spain and France. Supposed to be really nice for skiing and shopping.

Seems odd to join a team that far away for the last eight games of the year, but I suppose plenty of guys do it.

We will probably make the same or more money playing 8–10 games in Liga ACB as he did in a season of G League.
