Very interesting read. I recall the Lynchburg paper showed a picture of a burned WSU football helmet.

I remember hearing about the Marshall crash on the radio that night. "We Are Marshall" apparently stretches the truth in some instances but is an entertaining movie.

When the Marshal crash happened we had a number of football players that were very upset emotionally.
Back in the late 60’s Ferrum was a junior college, and pretty much a stepping stone to D-1 football scholarships.
UR and Marshal had both recruited players from Ferrum, so consequently a number of our players lost friends/teammates
from their days at Ferrum. It was a very sad time for college football.
