The Rivalry - James Madison and Richmond - Get Your Mojo Right!

glad this week has finally arrived...as most fans of both teams expected, the game will have significant Championship and FCS Playoff implications...

really enjoy the David (UR) versus Goliath (JMU) aspect of the rivalry...they have much more of everything: fans, money, facilities etc., but they cannot dominate us and it frustrates the hell out of them...with the great embarrassment last season on Game Day not sure how the rivalry can burn much hotter...

All time series record: UR 18-15
Since 2005 when JMU ranked in the Top 25: UR 6-5

this week I plan to dredge up some good Spiders mojo...some things that all Richmond fans can use to get themselves psychically ready for the big game...

I'll start off with 2009...the defending FCS Champion and #1 ranked Spiders playing the as usual very tough Dukes in Turkeyville...defeat seemed inevitable until this happened...

unexpected victory snatched from the jaws of defeat...it was as close to pure jubilation as I have ever experienced in an athletic venue...

Until the great Spiders win on Game Day, I'm guessing the walk out of the Chicken Coop had never been much quieter...

fair enough...McGee's return was a shocker...it sure helped the Spiders mojo...ran the table to the FCS National Championship...a good Dukes team folded again in the Playoffs...

while in 2009 after the Spiders shocker, Dukes mojo was apparently broken...lost the next two as well and missed the Playoffs...

The Scotty McGee "lore" is a remarkable thing. Country Howell's interception in 2007 or Eric McBride's Fumble Recovery in 2009 or Tyler Sullivan's OT sack in 2010 or Michael Straus' coming out party in 2012. All game clinching plays that resulted in great wins over JMU but didn't get us to a National Championship, let alone a National Semifinal.

The Dukes have won 1 playoff games in 7 years. A record that pathetic, quite frankly, requires you to hang onto a punt return in 2008 for dear life.

In re-reading his most recent posts, seems to me he had his tail beneath his legs after a little counter-banter by us.
Can dish, can't take. Probably rooted deep in his nature. Same as to the other Dukes who have visited recently.
Maybe the Football Dukes will cave just as easily. Let's knock them on their arses in the first quarter and see if they embody the same JMU weakness and lack resolve. It's important to get on them early.

I just viewed your board for the first time. First time ever. How juvenile. How silly. I felt like I was back in the 7th grade. Every other post seems to include the term "F**k RU".

I work in the field of psychology and I must tell you that their posts are diagnostic. They are often a dead giveaway for a disorder wherein the most frequently manifested symptom is unbridled anger and it is almost universally driven by feelings of inferiority. In the profession, we call it Multi-polar Self-Abnegation Disorder. Of course, I can't make a complete diagnosis based on one symptom, but I suspect that a full differential diagnosis would support my suspicions.

How do you account for the overwhelming number such symptoms of such a large number of posters on your board? Perhaps you recruit them solely from the pool of underachieving and immature elementary and junior high school students in Harrisonburg and environs. Maybe your pool is statewide. For solely professional reasons, I would like to know. Perhaps you would prefer to pm me in view of your understandable and justifiable likelihood of embarrassment. If so, let me know and I will provide a confidential email. Please do not take this lightly. You should seriously consider my offer not only for the sake of possibly providing therapy for the members of your board, but also for the sake of science and the advancement of humanity.

iSpider taking smack to a completely new level...

It's funny, I feel like JMU football and VCU basketball boards are very similar. I encourage you to check out Ramnation when we get close to the Black & Blue.

JMU football fan and RPI basketball fan are very similar. Both are large state schools that have been and will always be behind Tech and UVA. Both fan bases think their programs are a much bigger deal than they really are. RPI brags about the sellout streak in their area that is much smaller than their enrollment. Puke fan thinks the half stadium made of sheet metal makes them a big time program, yet they rarely sell it out despite it being about the same size as their enrollment. Our stadium is roughly 2/3 larger than our enrollment. Using the same ratio, bridgeforth would have to seat over 60k. My point is neither the sellout streak at RPI or the 25k seat half stadium at jmu are impressive given the size of both schools, yet they are continually talked about by both fan bases as justification that each school has arrived on the national scene.

Oh I'm still here; I stopped posting last week when I went to Hburg for Homecoming and there really hasn't been much I've felt I needed to respond to this week. My feelings aren't hurt at all; the whole reason I came over here was to get pumped for this game and let me tell you it's worked. I do think it's funny you guys banned a JMU poster for personal attacks after personally attacking me last week, but whatever, it's your board, you can do whatever you want.

I'm just beyond excited for this game - we are truly blessed with one of the best rivalries in FCS and it looks like it's going to be an amazing day for football Saturday.

I said I'd come back and post after the game and this is that post, it'll be my only one since I know how much it hurts to lose this one and I'm not one to rub it in after a victory.

Great game, we're really lucky to have such an amazing rivalry. Couldn't have asked for a better day for a football game.

Football wise what a game, could have gone either way. I think if you guys shore up your Special Teams you'll win some games in the playoffs. I think our O proved that we aren't just beating up on the URIs of the world - we knew this since we hung with UNC for a half. I was particularly impressed with our D, especially when we got to Lauletta ( who is such a talent, btw).

Shoutouts to Mojo who casted such amazing shade on JMU fans in his video; you are truly a legend and everyone I know, JMU & UR fans alike, thinks the same. I almost hope we see you guys in the playoffs again so we get one more Satchmo video.

I was looking at jmu's roster today and after seeing it in starting to think we will have a shot at them next year. They lose all of their skill guys on the outside and return Cardon Johnson. Thank god that Abdullah will be gone. They do return schor but maybe he won't be as good without all of his receivers and most of his line returning. Defensively they lose a lot from an already terrible defense. So we can beat them next year
